Hello to fellow teachers and CVP users alike,

My is Joe Felice (CVP User ID = jcfeli). I have been playing piano and organ for well over 40 years, and have sung with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Chorus for 10 years. I have advanced engineering degrees and have been familiar with MIDI for the past 15 years.

I have been teaching piano (all levels) at Ortigara's Musicville, an authorized Yamaha Dealership. I have openings during the week for another ~30 students -- ESPECIALLY for Clavinova CVP owners!!!

Most of my teaching is via materials I have arranged in Finale software -- repertoire covers the entire musical spectrum from classical and jazz, to pop and rock. My specialty is enabling Clavinova owners to "explore" the depths of their instruments and create multitrack works -- as well as make polished performances of solo piano literature.

If you live in the Chicagoland area, and are able to commute to Mokena, Illinois, please call to arrange for lessons tailored to YOUR particular playing style and level of experience -- the store has an in-stock inventory of all current Clavinova models, as well as Disklavier III and IV.

Here's hoping to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,

Joe Felice

I have a question about the Clavinova.
You stated you teach at all levels. so you must be an acomplished pianist

I'm not at a point where I would even attempt to play such music as Chopin's Etudes; such as Ocean Etude, Winter Wind or the old
a song such as Kitten on the keys.

I've downloaded midi files of the above mentioned music and and the reproduction quality sound is excellent.
However, these are Midi files, not someone actually sitting at my Clavinova playing so I'm curious??????????????;

If I was an accomplished pianist such as yourself, would I be able to play these kind of advanced pieces with the same skill and sound quality I would should I was playing a Steinway Concert Grand. Have you compared the two?

It seem's to me that since the Clavinova does not have a (real) action of a Stineway concert grand it would be impossible to duplicate the touch and feel of a (real) Concert grand.

Sincerely,

I appreciate there being teachers out there that are using Clavinovas in their studios, especially since I happen to be one of them and can see first hand the benefits. That said...it doesn't seem very appropriate to pitch for students on a user group.

I don't know. I just got mine, and am looking for an instructor. All things being equal, i would prefer someone who knows the clavinova over one who doesn't.
Perhaps a separate commercial forum?
Is there one?
i didn't look.

I would be glad to teach someone how to use the Clavinova. My local dealer certainly doesn't know much. This forum is a great place to advertise for students.

I understand what you are saying...but it's one thing to be searching for a teacher and another to be advertising yourself.

If you really want to be hooked up with a teacher that uses Clavinovas, go directly to your Yamaha dealer. Most likely they have teachers in-house that use Clavinovas every day and they probably know many more private teachers that use Clavinovas.

I hope you find the kind of instructor that you are looking for. Keep coming to this site with all of your technical questions. That's what we're here for.

Best Wishes,

I have no problem with that. People post notes with CVPs for sale, why can't you mention that you would be agreeable to accept students and just mention your city.

A casual mention here and there would not offend me at all.

Hello to Fellow CVP User Group Members,

This is Joe, the originator of this thread. My original posting as a piano teacher who is fluent in Clavinova technology was written because a previous thread in the User Group stated there was a need for someone who taught piano and who could make use of the Clavinova's features.

Mr. Goodoboy asked if classical piano literature played live on a Clavinova sounded as good as on a Stineway [sic] concert grand.

I would reply in this way: The Clavinova has a weighted keyboard and a quality of piano sound that allows an accomplished pianist to be fully satisfied with the instrument. The better the pianist you are, the more nuance you can coax from a Clavinova in terms of musical performance.

Regarding the touch of a Clavinova, each note on the instrument is built with a metal arm that simulates the action of a piano action. Your Yamaha dealer has a demonstration model of the Clavinova hammer action.

I noticed a flurry of comments implying the ethics of a teacher advertising/promoting himself in this forum. Here is my personal response to these statements: I already have enough piano students -- more than 60 per week. If, however, there are people in the Chicagoland area who already own Clavinovas, and would like help in exploring the deep capabilities of the instrument, I would be more than willing to work with you.

Sincerely,

Joe (ID = jcfeli)

P.S. I teach piano in an authorized Yamaha Dealership, and I often am the person who locks up the store at night (10PM). I am in the midst of Clavinovas, Yamaha verticals, Disklaviers and C7's (7'6" Yamaha grands).

My choice of practice instruments in the store, when left alone to the full Yamaha product range? The Clavinova 307 and 309, due to their abilities to multitrack sequence and allow voice manipulation. Enough said.

I second you completely Gary

If you got something clavinova related for sale the forum is the right place to tell about it.
This includes clavinova lessons.

I guess I'd better jump in here. Sorry for waiting so long, but I was out of town last week and am just getting back to looking at the forum.

When I created the Teacher's Corner, it was explicitly my intent to provide a place for students and teachers to hook up. We have a very hungry group of CVP users here and it's very hard to find teachers who are savvy about the latest technology. I'm hoping that this forum will be used by teachers to help all of us out.

So, my thought on this is simply that the Teacher's Corner forum is for teachers to make themselves known to the group, CVPUG members to ask their advice and opinion, and if a teacher has available slots for CVPUG members, then to let us all know that.

Thanks to everyone for caring about this topic!

jcfeli, please update your profile to include your location city. If you're going to make yourself known and offer to take CVP students, it would be helpful to see at a glance where you live.
