Yamaha has published a firmware update for the 300-series CVPs.
This upgrade will allow you to enjoy exciting new IDC services and features coming soon. It also resolves a few minor bugs remaining in the current firmware version (V1.0). Yamaha highly recommends this upgrade.
New functions
1. Song recording function on the score display.
2. Increased number of compatible LAN adapters.
3. Streaming playback.
4. Remote control of keyboard settings via IDC web browser.
5. Play back of MIDI files embedded in html.
Follow this link and click on the CVP model you own. Then click on "Downloads" on the right side of the page. Instructions for updating your firmware are included from a seperate link on the same page.

On the page describing USB information for IDC https://music.yamaha.com/servicesTypeIDCUSB.html , there is a list of compatible USB devices headed with the following proviso:-
USB-LAN Adapters
Connecting your IDC-enabled instrument to the Internet requires a wireless or wired USB-LAN adapter. Different firmware versions are compatible with different types of USB-LAN adapters. The chart below lists the different types of adapters and the minimum required firmware version.
The latest minimum firmware version of those devices listed is 1.50, but the current version is now 1.55.
On the firmware update page for 1.55 we are told:-
2. Increased number of compatible LAN adapters.
So it seems to me that the list of compatible USB-LAN Adapters is out of date, because otherwise the new additions referred to above would have a revision number of 1.55.
Have I interpreted the information wrongly or should the list be revised?

What is "song recording function on the score display"? I've installed 1.55 but can't figure out what that is.
To update the firmware I need to copy some downloaded files from my computer to a SmartMedia card.
How does Yamaha expect us to do that. SmartMedia cards are obsolete. It is quite difficult to get them and very expensive compared to a usb memory stick. I'm not willing to buy a Smart card usb reader to be used only once and for this purpose.
We should be able to use a usb flash memory stick to do the upgrade.

Polo,
Get a 7-in-1 reader, USB. This gives you way more than one use, and they are dirt cheap! You can also plug in any memory, including a giant Compact Flash card and store EVERYTHING there.
Also, to get the latest firmware, go to:
http://www.global.yamaha.com/download/firmware_cvp/
The latest version is 1.56.
Also, for a SmartMedia Card, you can go to:

Since you have a Clav, you may need to give a little bit. I do agree, that they should have went the USB route. I have a feeling you will be able to do this with future firmware if the boot loader is updated.
Hope this helps.....

Looks like not a lot of activity on this forum on this subject recently, sorry if this does not add very much.
Noticed a comment below regarding using a USB stick to do an upgrade rather than SmartMedia- I was hoping to find out via this forum that this IS possible. Has anything changed or is this still not possible. Has anyone tried it? Don't fancy risking losing the firmware altogether.
SmartMedia cards are getting more difficult to find now, though not impossible so would have preferred to use USB to go up to 1.60 on CVP301, which I need to try out IDC via Buffalo adapter.
Thanks
Richard

Someone needs to update the downloads section of CVPUG for this new firmware. It is currently holding last years update.
About a month ago I updated the firmware on my CVP-307 to version 1.7. Are we talking about the same thing? I also used a flash memory stick to do it. I am confused.
Oooops I just noticed the dates of the posts. I thought it was a recent post.
