After many years of failed attempts and compromises I finally have my CVP receiving MIDI over a wireless connection from ANY pc on my home network.

Thank you tony for showing me how!

If anyone is interested in how this can be accomplished, read this:
http://www.cvpug.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=886

BTW, since it works over TCP/IP it is possible to send or receive MIDI to/from my CVP from anywhere in the world! :D

Wow! That's really neat!

I'm sorry I didn't follow this thread early on -- I have access to the CVP development team in Japan and might have been able to get some answers for you.

I'd really appreciate it if you could write this up as a tutorial that we can post on the web site.

A quick update...

It works flawlessly on MOST of my PC's. I am having trouble with my Thinkpad R40. I don't think the built-in 802.11b WiFi card pumps out enough bandwidth. It seems to have an occasional "burp" when playing "fat" sequences. I'm going to go for an upgrade to 11g and see if that solves the problem.

Also, Tony's problem is proving to be an inconvenience. In case you haven't followed the technical discussion from that thread, it boils down to this: the host PC MUST have a physical COM port for the CBX driver to work. In my case, my son's Toshiba won't work (oh well - I suppose every PC in the house doesn't need to hit the CVP).

Wally,
Do you think you can make some headway with your contacts at Yamaha? I really don't think it would take them long to spin a CBX that would work with VSPs. I think the problem is that CBX tries to directly access the COM port which won't do with a virtual port. Any help would be appreciated!

Dan,
Are you planning to do a tutorial or shall I?

Tony

Tony,

Reading all my long-winded posts, you'd think I like writing technical documentation ... NOT! It'll take me too long (I get bogged down with crap like trying to sound smart - go figure!).

I know: if you get something started, I'll give it a "once over" and finalize it. Deal?

Dan,
Okay, I'll take a crack at it. Though I'm not sure when it will actually materialize...
