A gentle plea to the great and good at Yamaha.

How about giving the CVP range some real power in terms of volume (wattage) output? We had an impromptu live concert at home last night with around 30 people. Amazing how you can persuade the non-key board audience just how good you can be.

But, when they all got to sing their favourite song along to midi with the CVP, it just got lost even with all stops out.

My daughter's little BMW Mini has 300 plus watts so ramp it up a bit and make the next series at least twice as powerful.

I've played a CVP209 with over 70 people in the room, all singing lustily, and the 209 can still overpower them. I can't believe the 309 is any less powerful. Maybe your midi file set the volume too low, or your song balance setting was low?

If neither of those is the case, you can always hook your CVP up to external speakers. For a reasonable amount of money, you can really blast 'em away.

David,

First let me start out by saying I agree with you 100% but I like to hear myself speak (type?) so here's my opinion...

One of the things that originally impressed me with the CVP-207 was that it had more power than ANY other digital piano in the store. The others could get loud but they distorted and sounded like crap at full volume.

I agree with you that watts are cheap enough and so why not some more dynamic headroom. But consider this: the primary function of the CVP is to emulate a real piano and if a kid could sit down and crank out a Chopin sonata and make your ears bleed then does that make sense? I like the fact that when my 3-year-old turns the volume to full blast, it doesn't blow out the windows or even distort (too much).

One thing I wish it had is separate outputs for the main panel part and another for everything else. This way I could amplify the accompaniment and place external speakers as surrounds and still have the piano sound coming from the piano. Actualy, a third output for the mic/vocal part would be nice too. That really cries out for a dedicated external amp with megawatts.
