Is there a trick way to make the <filename.fil> files play on my CVP309GP? These are not a listed filetype in the user manual. I tried the Function | Utility screens and no luck there.
I think there is conversion software available from an external source; but does anyone know if there is a different way to get these ESEQ files to play on the CVP?
I d/l'd some files from the recent reference on the piano forum:
http://www.piano-e-competition.com/2004Contestants.htm
which also has midi and xg filetypes; but I was thinking there might be a compatibility mode not discussed in the manual.
Thanks,

Dale,
To play ESEQ files, you must start with a diskette (or create one) that has a Pianodir.fil (directory file) along with the individual song files (usually *.FIL - but not always). From that, you can copy an individual song to the CVP's internal memory (i.e. User Songs). The copy/paste operation actually converts the file to an EVT file that can be played by the internal sequencer.
Bottom line is ESEQ files are meant to be played from floppies such as PianoSoft diskettes. For this reason, you'll always see them grouped together along with a corresponding pianodir.fil.

Great link - thanks
It would probably be easier for you to download the midi files (they are also provided as links at the bottom of each contestants page) and load them in a directory on a smartmedia card or a usb flashdisk

It might be worthwhile taking a look at the original post on the pianoworld forum -

These performances are astounding
The gala performance by Yung Wook Yoo (NA Ballade no 4) ranges from thunderous to delicate
If IDC wanted to license something that was *really* impressive - these would be the thing
