I may actually have a service problem with the floppy disk drive on my CVP-205.

The floppy disk drive light is always on and looking at the floppy diskette of midi music that came with my CVP I realize the little metal spring-loaded protector is missing on the diskette. I think it might be stuck in the floppy drive.

I'm thinking of trying to fix it myself. Maybe see if I can take off the floppy drive, open it up and fix it.

Anyone have any experience with this kind of a problem? Any suggestions? Will this void my warranty?

Anyone want to tell me I'm nuts and should call for service?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

YES! I had exactly the same thing happen to me about a year after I bought my CVP-96. With a flashlight and a small pair of needle-nose pliers I was able to slowly extract the diskette's cover from the drive. The problem never happened again.

Incidentally, it would be a very good idea to purchase a copy of the Service Manual for your CVP. If you're in a pinch, it'll tell you exactly how to disassemble your CVP.

My CVP-207 green floppy light stays ON all the time the piano is on. I don't hear the motor spinning when the floppy isn't being accessed and the floppy is working correctly.

I recently had to take the floppy drive apart to repair a bent metal guide that kept floppies from ejecting. This damage was form my 2 year old who must have jammed a floppy in the wrong way.

My 209 has the floppy drive light stay on all the time as well. I believe this is normal. According to the manual the light indicates that the drive can be used (page 6 of the CVP 207/209 Manual).

My 207's floppy disk drive light also stays on all the time. It only blinks off (very briefly) during disk access.

Ragvand, you are right that Yamaha designed it that way. Page 6 of the CVP 207/209 manual states "When the power is turned on, the drive lamp (at the bottom left of the drive) lights to indicate the drive can be used."

Well, if that's a design feature I think it is stupid. 99.99% of computers and other devices with drives do it the opposite way (light = disk access; no light = ready).

And why is a light needed to say the drive is ready? Maybe the fact that the big color screen and a dozen other lights are glowing is a better indication that the 207 is ready!

Bemused,

That's what happens when music guys instead of computer gurus design something electronic ;)

Leave it to Yamaha to do something wierd.....The light on the floppy drive is the opposite of that on a computer. It is on when available, ond off when busy, or reading your disk. The light staying on 99% of the time is normal.
