The message listed below was written by me in the thread titled "Vocal Harmony". However, since I didn't get any response, I've posted it again under a new title which is more specific to my quest for help.

In plain terms, I would like to play some karaoke MIDI files while I play around with the VH feature in order to learn how it works. Since I can't play the chords required to activate the VH, I need to play MIDI files which have the chord info enbeded into the file.

One other question: Where have all the members from the old site gone?

Thanks,
Wes

Since we're on the VH subject, has anyone found a site that has karaoke files which have the chord information enbeded in the file, so I don't have to play the chords in order to sing the song with harmony? I have access to over two thousand karaoke files, but can't seem to find any with chord information which activates the CVP-207 VH. I can't play well enough to chord to the song, and my wife is a piano player. She is now learning how to play chords to take advantage of the wonderful features the CVP has to offer, but for now it sure would be nice to only have to worry about singing the song.

I don't remember how I did it, but when I got my 209 I played around with the VH. I used some Jimmy Buffett midis. I was able to sing along with the midi and have the VH accompany me to a particular track. In other words, my voice came through the harmonizer using the notes on the track that played the chords. Does that make sense? I'm not sure I'm explaining it clearly.

Your second question interests me a great deal! When we moved to this site, our membership started to climb faster than at the old site. We're now over 1500 members! But I can't figure out why we're having fewer discussions.

What happens when you try to use Vocal Harmony?

I have midi files which I've used for a Karaoke night. I had no problems turning on Vocal Harmony with them.

Perhaps your files have only the left hand part, but no chords.

In the old e-mail discussion sessions we had, every question went out to everybody with no web access required, thus the chance of someone having an answer was much greater. Very few people will take the effort to log into a website every day, or even once a week. The chance of someone logging on and having an answer to a current question is greatly reduced. Very few, if any, people will go back through the old message files to respond to old questions. If you don't get an answer to your question while your question is still on the recent forums list, forget it. Though this new website has a lot for nice features, the loss of e-mail forums decreases its effectiveness in my opinion.

Fred,

Thanks to you and Wally for trying to answer my question.

As far as I know based on my limited understanding of the VH and without the benefit of a clear manual on the subject, in order to have the VH work, the 207 or 209 must have chord information. This information can be supplied by the user in the form of playing the chord or by using a MIDI file which has the chord information enbeded in the file. What I'm asking is where can I find MIDI karaoke files which have the chord information to make the VH work?

I now have over 2,000 karaoke files, but can't seem to get any to work. The only files that I have which work, are on the VH demo disk that Graig Knudsen from Yamaha provided. All others to this point don't work. There are some settings of the VH that provide voices in unison, without chords, but without the chord info there is no harmony.

To repeat Wally's statement: "I'm not sure I'm explaining it clearly." I don't know if he is or isn't, I just know I don't understand it clearly. There's hope that the pending development of a DVD on VH will soon be available.

Thanks,

Wes Rahn

Hi

BCK at http://www.bck.co.uk do midi files with harmony give them a try. The ones I have tried are the Chartbusters. These are the latest "pop" tunes of the day.

Not my cup of tea !!!!

Don't forget, you can tell the CVP to look at any channel to get the chords. Try selecting another channel.
