View Full Version : CVP sounds from wind-controller?

Anyone have experience using a wind-controller to command the CVP synth? I'm currently using a Roland XV-2020 with my controller, but was wondering what things might sound like with the CVP attached. Any thoughts on how the CVP synth engine compares with the XV-2020? (I have special patches for wind-controller use installed on the XV - any way to modify the CVP patches for wind controller use? -somehow doubt it)
thanx!

Orbit,
I don't have any experience with it but I'm very curious how it sounds with the basic woodwind patches such as "Sweet! TenorSax".
My brother (who's an accomplished pianist), was most impressed with (of all things) the CVP's sax sounds - go figure. I never take any of the patches seriously that aren't normally played with a keyboard. They're there mostly for styles and accompaniment UNLESS you got a cool toy like a wind controller or (something I play around with) a midi guitar.
There are some guys on this group who've done some hard core patch editing with some very impressive results. But I think your severely limited by the "no aftertouch" issue.

I use a WX (mostly to control a VL and other physical modelling synth SW)
You WILL get more natural performances stylistically on the CVP than you could with the keyboard but you will also be disappointed with its expressiveness. One possible solution would be to route the output through an effect (or effect unit) that is programmed to respond to, for example, cc02 but then you might just as well use your external sound module (or SW).
Personally, I just run Logic7 for MIDI, audio tracks, mixing and effects. In that setup I treat the CVP as an input device (keyboard) and as (one of many) sound modules for the sounds it does best, bouncing it to audio if required and then mixing (via Logic / MLAN) on a Yamaha 01X.

Thanks guys,
I'm just getting started with MIDI, sequencers etc.. and am starting to wade into things.
Amazing technology....
