All:
I downloaded the attached midi file (virus free). It willl play just fine in the Windows Media Player and I can edit it just fine in Cakewalk. However it will not play on my PF-1000, which instrument I understand to be very similar to the CVP-205.
Can anyone offer advice on how to get this file to play?
Thanks.
Regards,
Bob.

I know very little about midi (maybe MidiMagic can help explain here). I put the file in my CVP-209, and it didn't play, either - it was silent - I could see the notes in the score, but no sound. I deleted the first two entries in the file, which were Bank MSB and Bank LSB (I have no idea what they do), and it played, with a flute voice. I deleted the third entry (Prog 73), and then it played with a piano voice. Hope that helps some.

I searched through the PF-1000 menus but I just don't know enough about it yet.
Kindly let me know on which screens you found the ability to edit the first entries in the file. I too have no idea what Bank MSB and Bank LSB are, but I surely want to delete them.
If your CVP-209 is similar to the CVP-205 (and thus the PF-1000) I'm hoping that I can delete the same entries.
Thanks very much.

Bob.

Hey Bob,
I think the user interface on the 209 and 207 is different from the 205, but hopefully the functionality is similar. On my CVP, I opened the song, chose "Digital Recording", then "Song Creator", and went to the "1-16" tab. Once there, I turned off the filters so that all events (ctrl, prog, note, etc.) showed, and deleted the first three.
I posted a new version for you with those edited out:

Let me know if it doesn't work for you.
Good luck,
Brad

Hi
I have looked at the midi file and the reason it does not work is because it has a Bank change of 121 which you don't have.
There are two tracks 1 is flue and 2 piano.
Just take change the 121 in the "Crtl 0 121 Bank MSB" to 0 on track 1 and again in track 2. Watch out as there are 2 lots of "Crtl 0 121 Bank MSB" in track two.
Just follow ClavinavoGuy's advice.

Hi ClavinovaGuy
Here is some info on the MSB LSB.
First arm yourself with the "Reference Booklet" (CVP2xx) on page 3 you will see all of the Voices and a list of numbers.
Under ORGAN you will see Rotor Organ MSB 0 LSB 112 Program Change 18
Control Change 0 0
Control Change 0 112
Program Change 18
The MSB stands for "Most Significant Bit" and
LSB stands for "Least Significant Bit" which makes the CVP do
a "Bank Change" you then issue a Program Change.
These Bank changes allow you to select different voices over and
above the basic, ie a program change of 19 will give you Pipe Organ.
But you will see from the list there is more then one voice 19.
The other voices live in different banks. (112, 115, 116, 113 etc)
On the CVP it looks like this:
Ctrl 0 112 Bank MSB
Ctrl 32 0 Bank LSB
Prg 18
What you did was correct, or you could have looked in the book and changed the 121 into a bank that we DO have.
BTW, If you go to "Function" "Utility" "Config 2" you will see "Display voice number:" Select ON
Now when you select a voice from the piano's panel you will see the full bank number of each voice. #000-122-000 is the Grand Piano 1
I hope that helps.

Thanks, Midi - that takes a lot of the mystery out of it!

Brad:
Thanks. Your suggestions worked on my PF-1000 (CVP-205) just as you said. I've learned something here.
Also, many thanks to MidiMagic for the insights into the workings of Midi.
Best regards,
Bob.
