Hi Everyone,
For the last month or so I have been trying to figure out what instrument I should puchase in order to start my adult piano lesson adventure, and the choices are somewhat overwhelming. I have toured all my local music shops, surfed the internet etc and have managed to narrow my purchasing decision to one of the following:
1. Yamaha CVP204 $3452 USD
2. Yamaha CVP305 $6217 USD
3. Yamaha U3 (second hand) $4835 USD
Now I must admit that my preference would be for option three, due to the fact that no matter how good an electronic instrument is, it cannot be any better than the acoustic is designed to emulate - ie there is nothing like the "real thing".
However, there is one factor that is preventing me from simply going with that option, and that is my current living arrangements - I am flatting and my room (where the selected instrument will live) is subject to reasonable daily temperature fluctations. My copy of the Piano Book alludes to the fact that this is likely to destroy and acoustic instrument in short order - and hence my considering the Clavinova option.
However I am concerned that if I puchase a CVP I will regret it once I have progressed from being a complete keyboard novice. At the moment I must honestly say that when playing the CVP204 and the CVP305 I cannot tell the difference in sound, and at the moment all I want out of the instrument is the best piano sound I can get (with a nice Hammond organ sound for later when I can pretend to be Jimmy Smith - much later!).
Would any readers care to help out a novice with some sage advice here? Any replies most appreciated.
