Hi All,
Looking for a little help/info here. My wife and I purchased a 207 a few months ago, and have been thrilled with it. Here's the problem, when it was delivered the gentleman installing the unit used what he call the U.S. edition disk to "turn on" the U.S. settings, saying this is to prevent overseas models from getting the U.S. software. I asked if this was permanent, and he said "yes". Well guess what? This week I had to do a full system reset......"12 yr old nephew visiting....I'll say no more....and low and behold, all the U.S. settings are gone. I'm talking brighter display, music finder songs missing or with strange names...."March for a Mouse" instead of "Micky Mouse March". I just called my dealer asking for this "set up disk" so I can get back my U.S. settings, and.......was told they can't give me a disk because Yamaha says no. I feel I paid 6000.00 for the U.S. version, and all the software that comes with it. Is this Legal? Does anyone have some advise? The dealer is sending a repairman out to reload the U.S. stuff, but I don't want to have to call a repairman any time I have to restore my software.
Please respond if you have any information reguarding this....
Thanks
Tim

Hi Tim,
although I don't have a CVP 2XX I suggest that you check out this site:
http://psrtutorial.com/index.html
Check ther in the "Music Finder" section where you will find the original (with correct names) CVP 209 *.mfd files. Just download them and install them on your instrument. There are other *.mfd files as well which you might want to take a look at. This might save you the trip and most likely cost of the repairman's/salesman's trip to your house.
I find this use group very helpful. The majority what is said with respect to the PSR's applies to the Clavinovas as well.
As far as the brightness of the screen is concerned, I don't have a clue but think that this should be easy enough to adjust via the menues.
Hope this helps a little,
Cheers,
Reinhard:)

The screen brightness on the PSR2000 is controlled by a little knob on the back of the machine. You set it once and then don't bother with it again. That may also be true on the CVP207.
There are a LOT of music finder databases at the psrtutorial site. There is, in particular, a "master" mfd with a couple thousand records. A Music Finder database for the PSR2000 will not work directly on the CVP. However, you can download MusicFinderView, which is discussed at this site, and easily convert a MFD from one machine to another. There are also detailed steps on how to load or save an MFD into your keyboard and how to edit the entries or create your own. You will find that MusicFinderView can also be a big help in maintaining your database.
While the MFDs may have to be converted, the 1000 or so MIDI songs and the many hundreds of styles, complete with OTS, will work just fine on your Clavinova.

I have a CVP-207 with the USA Edition update installed, and I know of the file that changes the names of all the songs in the Music Finder, but I am wondering exactly how I would go about loading this into my CVP-207 if it somehow got erased. Which screen/menu would I be in, and what command would I give it?
Thanks,

Hi r_d,
I refer again to the web site I posted above. Go and search for "Music Finder". There will be a step-by-step explanation of how to do what you want. Although it is written for the PSR2000 I am sure the steps are the same for your CVP 207. (Or am I mistaken, Joe?). It will be worth a try.
Cheers,
Reinhard

Yes, the steps to load (or save) a Music Finder Database are the same. The screen shot for the CVP will look different than the screen shot of the 2x00, but the same functions should be there. You can't hurt the original preset music finder database. It is stored permanently with the machine. You can "replace" it with a different one. At any time you want, you could also replace the new one with the preset if you were so inclined. Note that the MFD itself is unique for each machine. If you get a "PSR2000" MFD, you would have to "convert" it to an CVPxxx MFD using MusicFinderView.

Anyone know how to convert the CVP-209 music finder database from http://psrtutorial.com to a format suitable for the CVP-208. I've tried converting with the MusicFinderView program, but that doesn't list the CVP-208. I tried converting to CVP-207, but still my Clavinova reports "STOP Can't use this file".

Hi cjgpers
I have the European version of the 208 MFD mail me direct.
Hi trbeck2002
I have a European version of the 207 MFD file. Mail me direct.
There are some differences between the US and European versions. The US version does not have so many of those German Omp-Pahs / Polkas.

Thanks Midi Magic - I've just emailed you. What I'd really like to get hold of is the US version as well.

Midi Magic, many thanks for the file, it works great. Also discovered that editing the header in MFD files to change the keyboard name to CVP-208 doesn't work if you use Notepad to edit. In the end I used a hex editor to change the header, and am now able to use any of the CVP-209 files on my CVP-208.

Hi cjgpers
Glad it all works OK.
Yes it can be done just by changing the header. I try not to mention that, because, unless you know what you are doing, it can be terminal.
The mention of HEX editors, causes some poeple to break out into a rash.
Have fun.

Tim,
The Music Finder notation isn't the only thing that changes with the USA disk, the screen colors also change intensity. I assume you bought your CVP in the USA so why not contact the dealer to have them re-install the disk. I'm sure they won't give you a copy, but they should be able to come out on a service call with the disk. It's worth a call.

Anyone around this message board should be able to provide you with the "Color Quadrants.s745.bmp" file, if you don't have it. It puts a different color behind each of the four sections of the opening screen, and color matches these four sections of the screen with the colors of the faders at the bottom of the home screen. It really makes your home page much easier to interpret.
You would copy it onto a floppy and it paste under: Function button/Utility/Owner/Main Picture/User Drive, copy from the Floppy Drive and paste to the User Drive.

So, will this "Color Quadrants.s745.bmp" file work on a European Clavinova - I'm based in the UK. Is it just a background image? Anyone care to PM me to send me a copy?
On a separate note, the author of MusicFinderView is working on an update to allow for the current CVP models, and I've provided him with an index of all the styles on the CVP-210/208, matching up style names with those currently used in MusicFinderView.
MidiMagic, interestingly the file you provided has two subtle differences from the Yamaha original MFD. The two Titles that use the OrchestralBolero style have a different time signature - 3/4 instead of 4/4. But it's great to at last have meaningful song titles in Music Finder. After all, who has ever heard of the Nine Stone Cowboy!

Hi
I went through the two MFDs USA & the UK and made a note of the differences. These I have put in a Excel file.
PLEASE NOTE
RENAME THIS FILE FROM .txt TO .xls THIS IS TO COMPLIE WITH THE FORUM.

To cjgpers--
The "Color Quadrants.s745.bmp" file will work on any CVP-207, 208, 209, 210 or 900. I'll send you a copy this week. It's a large file (about 750 KB).

After you copy the "Color Quadrants.s745.bmp" file to your user drive you'll still need to go back in under:
Function button/Utility/Owner/Main Picture/User Drive and select the "Color Quadrants.s745.bmp" file as your new background for you home page. Until you do this you'll still have the background you've always been using as your home page background.

Hi cjgpers
"The two Titles that use the OrchestralBolero style have a different time signature - 3/4 instead of 4/4. "
The file I sent was taken from the suppied disk from Yamaha so I have know idea why it should say 3/4.

I stand corrected. The "Color Quadrants.s745.bmp" file is 232 KB.

I know exactly what the "USA Edition" upgrade is, but can someone tell me why only USA residents get it? Is it just to keep people in the USA from ordering a Clavinova from Canada at a cheaper price? Why does no one in Europe get anything like this? What about Clavinovas in, say, Australia or elsewhere? I see a lot of our message board people live outside North America.
You would think that Yamaha would see to it that ALL Clavinova owners at least get a copy of the "Color Quadrants" file for their main screen. This is such a vast improvement over a plain background!
Also--I was looking at a CVP-208 several days ago, and Yamaha has two new background screens for the CVP-208 home screen--"USA Marble" and "USA Satin." These are altered versions of the Color Quadrants file, with the same colors in the same locations, but with a textured look added instead of just the plain solid colors. The original Color Quadrants file background was not there.
I guess I'm making too big a deal over this background file, but it makes a lot of difference to me, as this is the home page that I see first every time, and the page from which I go to everything else on the instrument. This is very important, in my opinion.

I assume the USA disk is compiled by Yamaha USA? What I don't understand is why these improvements are not built into the standard Clavinova out of the factory. To be honest, anyone with a PC could easily edit the color quadrants bmp to add a textured look to it. For me, its the Music Finder database that comes on the USA disk that is far more valuable, making a significant improvement to the usability of MusicFinder.

Hi
I live in the UK and have never seen any CVP 2xx odd or even series with the Quad background.
As you say the UK does not get what the USA does. In fact the USA gets more.
As far as the background is concerned I have a BMP of Diana Krall as my background, for better for my eyes then plain colour.
The MFD in the UK is all full of German Ump-Pahs. Fine if you know the tunes to play with them. So I just loaded in the US version.
Thing you get that we don't are disk like the Vocal Harmony Demo and the disk with the Surpise midi on. Sadly the later does not work on the new CVP 2xx.

I believe Yamaha USA has paid the copywrite holders to use the name of the songs in the Music Finder for the USA edition.
