As I mentioned in another thread; today (Saturday) was the scheduled delivery date for my 309-PE. In the afternoon the truck pulls in the driveway and the two delivery guys come to the door to introduce themselves and see where it is going [by the way - they were the nicest polietest delivery guys I have ever encountered]. Then they went back to the truck and as I'm watching out of the window, I see them pull out a box that says 309-GP on the side.

At first I thought that maybe they just had to get that box out of the way to get to my box but they start bringing it towards the front door. I wanted to save them any trouble so I went out and pointed to the 309-GP on the side of the box and said "I was supposed to get a 309-PE" One of the guys said PE stands for polished ebony and since this model only comes in black they don't say that on the box. I thought that was strange, but they must know better than me.

As they clip away the strappings and open the box I see that the unit is in the shape of a small grand piano. So I again I said "I think this is the wrong piano" He said again that this is what I ordered.

Then they bring it in the house and I said again "I thought my unit was smaller and square in the back" He says "No that's the 307". Now I'm starting to doubt it myself and wondering if the salesman and I miscommunicated and he thought I was ordering a GP and I thought I was ordering something else. By now they have two of the legs on so I went upstairs and got the Yamaha brouchure to look at the pictures and see where I went wrong (I'm also thinking if I really did buy a GP I got one hell of a deal). I showed him the picture of what I thought the 309-PE should look like. When I showed him the picture he went "oh oh ... maybe there is something wrong". He called the store while the second guy continued to assemble the piano.

To make a long story short (after two telephone calls) they finally figured out that they delivered the wrong piano and my 309-PE was still in the warehouse. But by this time the GP is fully assembled and sitting in my living room.

So they decided to leave it until they can bring the correct one in a few days. They didn't want to leave me without a piano since I had already arranged for a friend to buy and pickup my old one. I needed something to practice on as I am taking weekly lessons (and I was anxious to play with all the new gagets).

They apologized profusely and were very embarrassed. But, hey ... mistakes happen. At least they didn't leave me without a piano.

So here I have been all day playing with the 309-GP. It is one marvelous machine!!!! I hope I'm not disapointed when it gets swapped out for my PE in a few days. The keyboard and all of the functions will be exactly the same, but the speakers will be a little smaller.

Hey

you get a good chance to compare the GP to the PE model.
It will be a comparison where the 'first impession' is not as dominand.
tell us abouth it when you played em both for a week.

Kind regards

Eric

Oh oh, ... that is going to be one tough post partum blues song to play ....

I love my CVP309GP, it competes with the internet for my time, but usually it wins. I feel sorry for you having to make the exchange. Couldn't you cut a deal with those guys to make you an offer on the "used" machine you have now, and turn this in to a win-win (or is that "WHEN WHEN")?

I'm not sure exactly what the price difference is but I'm pretty sure it's between $3,000 and $4,000. If they said you could keep it for $500 I'd say yes. But not $3,000.

But also it is a little too big for the space I have dedicated to it. If I did keep it we would have to rearrange the room.

And now that I have looked at Yahama's website and used the keyboard comparison function I find that the amplifiers and the speakers are exactly the same size between the PE and GP. It appears the only difference is the cabinet itself and where the speakers are placed.
