Do you think that a CVP 309 GP is a suitable instrument for someone to learn on and does it have any features that would be particularly helpful? My wife used to play but not for some years now and I am confinced that the 309 would be helpful.
Any comments, please.

I think you have answered your own question. Absolutely go for it if you have the space and $$! This CVP is for anyone from beginner to advanced, and you will be playing it as well even if you have not had any lessons ( if your wife will give you time to play, that is!) There are guide lamp features, rhythm styles, multitrack recording, etc etc. Your dealer will be able to show you everything the instrument can do, ( and so can Simon Smith tutorials which I have and are extremely helpful in navigating the CVP) You will not regret the choice you made if you go for the CVP 309!

If the price is no problem, a good piano even for beginners.
In fact Many of our members would advice on a high end model for kids and beginners.

There's a pretty good section in our CVPUG FAQ that addresses this question.

If it's in your buget go for the best and that's what you are looking at.
I had been taking lessons myself and was playing on plastic keys at home and on a real acoustic piano at my lessons. It made things difficult practicing all week with the "plastic" feel and then have to "perform" that same song for my teacher on his piano with a totally different feel.
So I upgraded to a 309 with the real wood keys and graded key action. Now I don't have that problem anymore. My 309 feels very close to the acoustic now.
