I was trying to decide between the CVP-202 and the CVP-203 as the price difference was only $300. I ended up getting a really good deal on the 203. I got the 203 for the same price as I was offered for the 202 a couple of weeks earlier. I paid about $2600 for the CVP-203 delivered from the Yamaha Peninsula Music Center in San Jose, CA.
They were having a big sale on that day. The manager told me that they had bought the entire remaining inventory of clavinova for the california district and that he is very willing to cut a deal.
I checked the price from the keyboard center in Canada and also in Europe. It would have cost me the same if I would have bought it from Europe. The Keyboard center price was significantly higher (over $3K) for the 203.
I would highly recommend that you try to negotiated a price at your local dealer. There are some really good deals out there for the odd number CVPs. The difference between the the newer even and the older odd number is very minor at best (a few more sounds and the USB). You could save hundreds if you are willing to compromise on these features.
Surprisingly, the 203 came with two disks that has a bunch of songs that I can load into clavinova to play or learn thru guide lights. I believe this is what is missing in the imported models ( and the bench and US warranty). I guess the warranty was the biggest concern for me in deciding if I was going to get it from Europe
I guess now I can finally start playing and stop surfing the net! The clavinova replaces my old yamaha psr-70 which I purchased for about $1000 over 15 years ago. Its amazing how much technology has advanced in all these years. I have only played with it for about a day now but I am already convinced that it is worth every penny!
I agree with the statement that you should purchase the highest model you can afford and you will not regret it.
