Hello -- I have had a CVP-50 for years, still in great working order. I just bought a DOM-30 (Ebay) so I could have more voice selections than the 22 the CVP-50 offers. I have a midi cable "in" to my Clavinova, and "out" from the DOM. The disk drive on the DOM-30 seems to be working, at least on playback (I haven't had time to attempt recording).
BUT THE PROBLEM IS I cannot get the voices on the DOM to override the existing voices on the CVP-50. That is (almost) the sole purpose I bought the DOM-30. Can anyone help?
Thank you!

I used to have a CLP 300 and a Roland Sound Canvas SC55 sound module.
In order to hear the Sound Canvas voices only I had to turn the LOCAL button on the CLP to OFF.
Do you have a LOCAL ON/OFF button on our CVP-50...?
Hope this helps, let us know.

Thank you so much for the tip, but..... there is no such button like a "local" on my CVP-50. Am wondering now if the DOM-30 is defective? I just don't know enough about it to determine that. If anyone else has an idea I would greatly appreciate it!

Ian, in looking a little further in my CVP manual, I did find a way to turn off the "local." (Although I had to hunt for it, and it seemed pretty 'secret' being MIDI + Harpsi, simultaneously, certainly not obvious...)
I really felt I was on to something, but then the problem was that I got NO sound. At that point, I added Line In/Out cables to no avail. Hmmm... any thoughts??? Thanks!

Sounds like you have done everything that I used to do...it's quite a few years now, and I no longer have any documentation or my notes.
I assume you fiddled with the separate volume controls, and I seem to recall that there may have been some button(s) to press to indicate whether I was transmitting or receiving on the CLP channels. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Check out this link to a DOM30 Manual.
http://www.yamaha.co.jp/manual/english/result.php?div_code=emi
By default the CVP50 transmits on channel 1.
The DOM 30 should be listening on all channels, or at least channel one.
Use headphones to listen to the DOM30 when connected to your CVP50, with it's volume turned down. If the DOM 30 is working you should here something.
I have a DOM30 with a bad floppy drive but the rest works fine.
Good Luck,
John

Hi
If you want to play the dom30 from the cvp you need to connect the midi cable:
CVP midi "OUT" to the DOM 30 "IN"
you also need to connect the audio from the DOM back to the CVP
DOM L & R out to the Aux IN on the CVP.

Thank you so much. You hit the nail on the head, I'm sure you know! I had a professional musician friend of mine come over last night, and he told me the same as you. VOILA. Then this morning I got your post, which reinforced what we figured out.
I will say, however, both my friend and I interpreted the manual as instructing to do it opposite as far as In/Out on the MIDI cable, which is why I was having so much trouble, then throw in all the variables such as trying to turn off Local, trying different Send/Receive channels etc., it got too complicated.
Bottom line, it's great to have the knowledge base of this site. I thank you very much, and may need to ask questions in the future. You are a wealth of knowledge.
