We are going to buy a new digital piano for our church. We have been looking at the CVP-300 series, especially the 305, 307, and 309. Could anyone give me comparison pricing for these models? Does anyone know of a good dealer in our part of the country? We live in Louisiana.

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated. Would these be good instruments for church performance?

I have a 307 at church and it is the greatest thing since sliced bread. There is a significant difference in the touch between the 307 and the 309 because the 309 has wood keys and action. The other guts of the instrument are otherwise the same.

We purchased the 307 for $6,800. I later found out that I probably could have purchased it somewhere else for at least $1,000+ cheaper.

By all means, do shop around for price and don't hesitate to have it shipped to you. It is quite easy to assemble. Don't buy off E-bay because you have no certainty of a warranty. We only bought from the local dealer because his wife was a member of our congregation... it didn't sweeten the deal any.

If I had to do all over, I probably would have pinched my congregation the extra for the 309's wooden keys but it suits me fine. The only noticeable difference is when I'm playing Mozart or other presto music. The keys don't bounce back quite as quickly.

Good luck.

Check with Keyboards International in Jackson, TN. They seem to do a lot of business with churches. I went A LOT longer distance than from Lousiana to get my 307 there for the deal they offered me. I must also add that they were much more pleasant to deal with than the attitude that my local dealer had. That alone was almost worth the trip!

Pricing is a dodgy subject when you're dealing with CVP's. List prices all start out above $10000, so you just have to start calling around to talk to dealers to see who'll offer what you want to buy for what you want to pay.

In my checking around, I found that many dealers, including KI, do not even sell the 305. They contend that the added features over the 303 just aren't worth the extra $$. I now agree.

I was just in Costco last night and saw the little Suzuki that first sparked my interest in getting a digital piano. What a toy! I'm 100% satisfied with my CVP.

Thanks for the information.

Are the 307's and 309's sturdy if someone were to lean on the back corners. They look like they only have 3 legs. Just wondering if kids or unsuspecting adults would tip them over.

There are two legs in front, obviously. And two in back - one on either side of the pedals. The whole unit is quite heavy (Yamaha's website lists the weight at 194 lbs.)

I wonder about the sturdiness myself but it seems to be well balanced. Strongly recommend two people to move it around as it does not seem to slide well.

It is obviously not as sturdy as a real piano... which is not furniture and should not be leaned on or bumped into, other than the keys themselves.

I've always welcomed experimenting fingers on the keys... how will they figure it out if they can't play with it?

The big difference between the 305 and the 307 is in the 128 + 128 polyphony and you will immediately tell a difference if you play much advanced classical music or plan on using multiple voices such as strings and piano, etc.

Warning: polished ebony looks real nice but not recommended for heavy traffic. It scratches easily and is more expensive to repair.
