New Clavinova products announced at Musik Messe 2006

Yamaha announced some new products at the “Frankfurt Musik Messe 2006” conference including some clavinovas. I was hoping for a CVP409 or CVP310 but oh well…must have patience…

The new clavinovas are:
- CLP240PE
- N100
- Clavinova New Design II (modern minimalist design)
- CGP1000 (CVP 309 in a real grand piano case)

Check the out the details at Yamaha’s “musikmesse” site here. (http://messe.yamaha-europe.com/yamaha_fair/uk/20_new_products/30_clavinova_digital_pianos/index.html)

I am really waiting for the new Clavinovas. I would prefer the CGP-1000, but I will only buy it if it comes with a new Tyros 2 like engine. Do you really think they will release the CGP-1000 with the CVP-309 engine? I would be very disappointed...

Yes. That's already an established fact. The CGP-1000 already exists and has been demoed at trade shows.

I just check the yamah's musikmesse site and they removed the link to the CGP1000 and the CLP240PE. You can find info on the CLP240PE on Yamaha's European web site but I can't find anything on teh CGP1000. I wonder why they removed the info after publishing it and after showing the instrument at trade shows...weird.

Yamaha’s Clavinova CGP-1000 digital piano combines the advanced function of the Clavinova CVP-300 series with the luxury of a 4’11” grand piano cabinet polished to a lustrous, ebony finish. The combination of a wooden soundboard and advanced technology produces a richer, more expansive and more natural sound.

Designed to address the strong demand for a high-end CVP-type digital piano in a real grand-style cabinet, the CGP-1000 was inspired by the Clavinova CVP-309 and offers such features as Internet Direct Connection, enhanced song and lyric LCD displays and a natural wood keyboard.

The Clavinova offers a total of 120 preset songs in its built-in Song Book, powered by an internal flash ROM for song memory, along with the convenience of Music Finder and One Touch Setting options to manage and access songs. Creative musicians will appreciate the piano’s virtual 16-track recording studio, which makes it possible to craft complex songs and arrangements one track at a time using the realistic voices built into the instrument.

The CGP-1000 will be available in late summer with a suggested retial price of $22,795.

Thanks for the info Scubacpa!! But it is sad news to me. I was wondering that the CGP-1000 would be my definitive digital piano... I really don't understand why Yamaha will release a flagship product with a 2 years old engine...

Last Saturday, we attended what was billed as "The World Premier of the Ultimate Piano" being presented at the showrooms of the Piano Distributors chain here in South Florida. It turned out to be a demo concert and unveiling, (literally, as the piano was shrouded in black cloth) of the new CGP1000. The dealer has apparently received an exclusive first run commitment of about 25 units from Yamaha which are due to be shipped to them in the fall, even before they are shipped to other showrooms and dealers. They were being offered at the pre-introductory price of....$27,999.

This model has previously been described as a CVP300,(309) in a 5' grand case. Even the picture on the handout distributed at the concert showed it with a 307/9 control panel, but the unit that was demonstrated was a CVP409 in a 5' grand piano case. Interestingly, there was absolutely no reference to this or anything linking it to the 400 series during the demonstration, which I guess is part of the marketing strategy for this piano.

But for those of us who have neither the room or the money for that type of a digital piano, it did turn out to be a good demo of the features and new voices of the CVP407/409.

For the singers in the group, the most impressive new feature was the voice recording capability. This feature also allows you play along with imported music as you would with a CD player. I didn't collar anyone for more details as it was hot, crowded and they were busy with what appeared to be some potential buyers for this "one night" offering.

Unfortunately the demo unit was the only one in captivity and was being moved from store to store for the concerts, so I can't go back for a closer look. I was also curious as to how they handled the placement of the USB ports in the control panel. Whatever they did would make more sense than placing them all underneath the case as they have in the past but then nothing will top the colossal blunder of using the SmartMedia card in the 300 series control panel.

Anyway, there appears to be a market for the GP1000. According to Bill Boyce the owner of the chain, 14 of the promised 25 units had already been sold within a week at 2 previous concerts.

The concert and demo was by Yamaha's Craig Knudson who in addition to being an excellent musician really knows how to utilize the features of the CVP's.

Hi!

Yes, that explains the absence of a CVP409GP. When they first announced CGP1000 last year, I thought as well that it was going to be a whole new line, all in Grand Piano cases. That appears to be the case. But then they should have more versions - one model isn't much to put in a series. They should at least have different wood options, and perhaps colors (such as white). For a GP line looks is extremely important as that is something you're specifically looking for.

Perhaps this should be moved to the CVP400 forum now??
