Hello,

Is there any way to add the Performance Assistance feature in regular MIDI files? I noticed that most of the builtin songs have this feature but would like to see adding this feature to regular MIDI files downloaded from the Internet.

First of all I don't see Performance Assistant as a great asset. I played with it a few times during the first couple of days that I had my instrument, but the novelty quickly wore off.

Having said that ....

In order for PA to work the midi file must contain cord data. You can quickly check that by playing a song, have the PA button lit, and look at the main menu to see if the cords are listed as it plays.

You are correct, al lot of the built in songs have it. Most midi files you get "free" do not. Most of the songs downloaded from Yamaha's IDC website do. Interestingly almost all of the songs on the midi disks (produced by Yamaha) that accompany song books purchased from Yamaha or Hal Leonard do not.

So if you really want to use this feature you need to buy the songs from IDC. You can preview before you buy and verify that the song you are interested in has the chord data.
