Hi,
I would like to know what you think of the quality of the electric pianos on the cvp 307. In particular Fender Rhodes.
What sounds are most realists?

Vintage Electric Piano

The great thing about the piano voices is that you can manipulate them to be your own creation. I hope you have experimented with those features when you are trying to reproduce a specific instrument like the FR. Remember it is not really a piano but more like a vibraphone. I first played one around '72. I can remember what a delight it was

Who are your favorite famous Fender Rhodes artists/songs?

Hello,
Thanks for your response.
I look for the best emulation of electric piano on my CVP 307.
I think presets " suitcase EP ", "E.piano" and "tremolo EP" are realistic.
DSP and effects are very good.
But I used still not enough sound creator.
Have you advices for specific reglage?

My favorite fender Rhodes artists/songs?

the 70's (with Fender Rhodes Mark I or II)

Herbie Hancock with headhunters (chameleon, butterfly...)
Chick Corea (spain, Fiesta...)
George Duke
Weather Report (Birdland, teen town)
Patrice Rushen
Stevie Wonder
Earth wind and fire (Larry Dunn)
Richard Tee
and many more!!!
In fact i like Jazz, Jazz Funk, Jazz Rock, Gospel...

And you? Who are you favorite artists?

I like everything you listed above Jazzy.
Add (some jazz fusion?):

Ray Manzarek/Doors
Ray Charles (Shake Your Tailfeather)/Blues Brothers
Steely Dan (Peg) - later used a modified Dyno Rhodes
Paul Simon - Still Crazy After All These Years
Billy Joel - Just the Way You Are
Miles Davis - In A Silent Way album

Most favorite? probably Carole King.

Unfortunately, my 307 will never feel much of this music! That is not to say that I can't weave a little jazz into the Sunday service somehow, but not usually on the Rhodes.

The Rhodes underwent some serious changes when CBS bought out Fender Rhodes. Do you know who used what instrument and do you notice the difference in sound from early artists to later artists? Just curious of any Rhodes fans out there.

Ed,
I like too these artists (Donald Fagen and Miles in particular).
I have never heard Carole King, i will begin...

I think that the cvp 307 is really a fantastic piano with very realistic sounds.
The feeling of the cvp will never be comparable with a real acoustic piano, fender Rhodes or B3 Hammond organ but the emulation of these keyboards are all the same very good.

You always play better with a good instrument but the most important is the keyboardist.
If you have a good technique in jazz fusion keyboard, the cvp could sound a little like these 70's records that we love.
Cvp will give you a lot of pleasure.
Even if it never replaces real instrument...

Concerning Rhodes artists:
At early 70's, I know Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea play on Fender Rhodes Mark I (suitcase and stage) with effect (Echoplex, trémolo, wha, distortion...). mid 70's, George Duke with a modified dyno Rhodes (super dynamics on Brazilian love affair Rhodes solo!!!).
Larry Dunn too with EWF.
Later (1985),with electrik Band, Chick Corea play Rhodes Mark V midi.
If you have informations about Rhodes or keyboards (clavinet, minimoog!!!!) used by jazz fusion artists, i'm very insteresting!!

I listened on my cvp the sound "vintage EP", in my opinion, it's a Wurlitzer.
I think the most realistic rhodes of CVP 307 is "suitcase EP".
What do you think?

Last question: "Galaxy EP" correpond with which electric piano?..

I have only used the E.P.'s on my CLP at home Jazzy. Because of the type of music I mostly do at church, I don't play too much with the electric piano voices on the 307 (which has a lot more than the CLP.) I will give them a good listen this week.

At home I like to put some favorite songs on the stereo, crank it up and play along with the artists using my CLP. This is the greatest fun and learning technique! Do you perform this way?

When I get the CLP all paid for, I will get a 307 or 309 (still not convinced the wooden keys are an advantage) for home so I can better exploit the CVP's capabilities.

I have not been adventurous enough to introduce too many new voices of the 307 at church and I don't get to spend enough time working with all of the sound adjustment capabilities. The people are just getting used to having orchestral arrangements of their hymns (I hope!) and I have a very fine pipe organ that needs nurturing as well! Looking in my notes I see I played some Christmas music using the Suitcase EP so I must have preferred it over others at the time.

I am hoping within another year to have more time for all of my instruments and musical tastes.

Christmas music with phaser Rhodes electric piano and jazz chord substitutions, it could be interesting!!!

Is what other CVP users who play with CVP preset electric piano or modified sound?
Perhaps have you some advices to improve the sound?

Thanks.
