Will QRS floppies work when played in the clavinova?

I would like to purchase one of them, but want to make sure they will work.

I believe their floppies are all standard midi files. Obviously stay away from any "Pianomation" disks (CD's)

Which floppy were you thinking of getting?

I may be able to help you find a QRS sample/demo that you can try.

I was interested in the Liberace floppy at this address. Its called Liberace piano rolls.

Thank you.

Hi!

I hadn't heard of QRS disks before, but I read about them on their website, and to me it sounds a bit fishy - I'm smelling something proprietary going on with them. So I wouldn't bet on them working.

Anyhow, piano rolls aren't great anyway - you're missing touch and often pedalling. Since you're interested in Liberace (as I am), I can recommend the MIDI disk at Yamaha which has the full, true performance:
Musicsoft Liberace (http://www.yamahamusicsoft.com/index.php?action=ProductDetail&product_id=1000109)

I often listen to it on my CVP, it is great and never fails to inspire me.

You can download a sample for free at the following page to test it out http://www.qrsmusic.com/pianomation/downloads/default.htm about half way down the page (it's a long page) see "sample".

(I was wondering why this post almost dropped off the bottom of the recent list.)

Check with MM.

I agree with Danny, that one's OK but the PianoSoft title has much more expression. As he points out, the QRS titles are mostly converted from player piano rolls which don't capture the individual note velocities.

I tried downloading a pianosoft sample and all worked well - except when viewing the music on the screen - it's all in the bass cleff - both hands are on one stave.

Is there anywhere or any way that you can download new songs that have a left AND right hand nicely split into the bass and treble clefs, maybe with some accompanyment too?

I can't seem to find any

You can turn most midi files into a left and right hand part on the score notation.

When playing a midi file, if the notes are all together, press the setup button on the score. Put the left channel and right channel on 1. Now the notes are divided.

Wow! That seems to work - great!

Why doesn't the yamaha site say that all these files then are compatible for the 309? It says their "NA - not applicable".

Also, how did you know about that? I couldn't find anything about it in the manual!

Thanks again

The Yamaha dealer showed me how to do this when I bought my Clavinova.

Hi!

The Yamaha site isn't terribly uptodate or correct.

Apart from the mentioned trick on the CVP (which doesn't always work although usually does), you can also try some software that can permanently split up the music into two hands, such as MidiNotate. It does that taking proper fingering into account. I'm not quite sure how the CVP does it.

That way you can also get some proper sheet music. The CVP score display isn't very good at grace notes, trills, and the like.

Thanks everyone - that's much appreciated.

Do any of you know where to get quality songs like the ones that came pre-loaded onto the machine?

Thanks again
