View Full Version : Got my CVP-307 now what
I am the proud owner of a CVP-307. So far I have always played the piano and nothing else. Now I am faced with an instrument that has 100 buttons and can do 1000 things. Incidentally I played piano on it and it sounds awesome.
I was thinking perhaps, for now, I should keep playing the classical music with piano only.
The question is where and how do I start learning pushing the buttons making orchestral music for jazz, ragtime and movie themes? I am a slow learner and therefore I do not think hiring a teacher right away will help me at the beginning. I think I should first learn how to operate the instrument and may be then a teacher can show me how to make music.
I need help and guidance.

I'm near Kingston Ontario. Where in Canada are you? I'd recommend some lessons from the dealer you bought it from. I bought from Renaissance Music. They teach on Clavinovas in their store.
Isn't it a ball? I've had mine almost a year now and still get chills sometimes.
I live in Montreal. However the Montreal dealer does not give lessons. In the meantime I started fooling around with it and managed to play karaoke and sang the lyrics. I am glad I did not record my singing.

You could try the "CVP Tutorials" CD ROM course, advertised on the Home page of this forum.
A while back a few members purchased copies and reported favourably. Search the Forum's archive files to see for yourself.

Where can I find more details about the CD-ROMS? Someone else was mentioning something about DVD videos from miditainment. Is anybody familiar with those? If so what do you think?

If you look on the home page of this forum, roll down the page a bit and you'll see a news item headed "Clavinova made easy tutorials".
Contact wally who is the author of this news item and also the creator of CVPUG.
He can supply you with more info and obtain a copy of the product for you, should you decide to purchase it.

Glad to hear the comments regarding your CVP-307. We have had the CVP-205 for over 3 years and a couple of days ago we saw and tried out the CVP-309PM. I just could not believe the difference in the tonal qualities between the 309 and our 205. All I can say is WOW! unbelievable.
My wife is the "Piano" player in our house and I am self taught on the Hammond Organ.
We were so impressed with the 309 that I thought my wife should get an early Christmas present. So - it is being delivered tomorrow and I can hardly wait.
I may even let her play with it. :)
I look forward to the help provided by this forum. It is one of the best.

Congratulations Don,
You will not regret it. It is awesome. On the second day I managed to play (rather badly) a Tango. The CVP started with the introduction then I played the tango and the CVP played the ending. My wife was proud (I think proud of the CVP).
Playing it is a little less overwhelming.
