View Full Version : Any differences between US and Canadian CVPs?

Hi, all-

It's great to find a user forum for the Yamaha CVP models, as what other information I've found online has been spotty in detail at best.

I spent most of yesterday afternoon auditioning digital pianos, and immediately fell in love with the versatility, sound quality and value of the CVP207, 209 and 900 models in comparison to Technics, Suzuki and a couple of other brands. My local dealer has all of his 200-series models on sale in anticipation of receiving the even-numbered models (206/208/210), and the prices are very compelling. I'm located in northern California, and I'm told there are better deals to be had in Canada, but before I take that leap I'm wondering if anyone knows what, if any differences exist between the US-spec and Canadian-spec models. I noticed yesterday that the factory-preset DSP and other modes were labelled "USA Profile" (or something to that effect) on the LCD. Perhaps a few grammatical differences (e.g. "Centre" instead of "center")?

Any additional info is appreciated, and I'll apologize in advance if it's already been covered in an earlier thread (just signed up).

Not much diff between Canadian and USA - the song titles change from Europe to NA. Unless you are very very keen - you'll not notice much difference in voicing between the 207 and 209 - the 209 has the black polished look and a few more voices, but mot so many as you'd notice... don't know how experienced you are as a player or what you're used to...

Good deals (incl warranty) can be had from Canada (Steve Loates is most often quotes here). Checkout the purchasing experiences forum http://www.cvpug.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=9 for more info.

RadioGeek,

Interesting question. Talk about being territorial, eh? The LCD screen on the ones you looked at actually identifies it as being a "US profile"? It's hard to imagine a need for distinct profiles between two North American countries, the US and Canada.

I hope other members who have purchased from Canada let us know what's displayed on their screen. Obviously this isn't a factor in purchasing, but it is an interesting curiousity. ;-)

RadioGeek,

Shedding a little more light on this question, or possibly confusion, check the message thread "USA Setup Disk" in this forum (posted by trbeck2002 back in June).

There are probably two versions of this software disk for North America, one for the US and one for Canada. It will be interesting to learn which is used for US residents purchasing from Keyboard Centre.

Just wanted to mention that there are limitations to the CVP207
vs. the 209. If you are going to purchase a clavinova don't scrimp.
The 209 has more polyphony and if your looking for sound go with the 209. I have the 207 and found its biggest limitation is that it exceeds the polyphony even with the manufacturers suggested settings. It's especially noticeable with piano.
So I would suggest getting the 210 if you can. Because of the
problems with the 207 they probably created the 208 to replace the 207 and got rid of some of the background
so they could keep the polyphony the same on the 208.
Probably did the same with the 209 and went with the 210 as its
replacement.
But its still a beautiful sounding instrument and wouldn't have any other.
