Due to the unscrupulous behavior of certain people who have been trying to submit inappropriate content to our discussion forums, I have had to set the web site to require my personal approval for each and every new membership. Until we can set up a better process, I will review each new member's application. I will only approve your application if you include your location in the location field and something you like to do in the interests field on the form. Hopefully, this will be an indication that you're serious about joining and not just a spambot.

Sorry if this is an inconvenience, but I have no choice but to clamp down to prevent the misuse of our forum. I hope to have a better process in the near future when Sean rolls out the new CVPUG web site design.

Thanks.

Hello Wally,

I totally agree with you, you have to do something to keep the forum "clean".

Hey WALLY,

Sorry to see that it had to come to this measure. Some people just get a kick out of screwing things up for others.
It also means more work for you!
I like to thank you for putting in the extra effort to keep this an excellent website.

Sincerely,

Alex - CVP309

Thank you that's great.

I think that would be a good idea even if it's not Spambots. For the very reason I just posted as a P.S. to my last reply under the firmware download discussion which I will repeat below. I wrote that before I say this post.

P.S. Let's use this as another reminder to all the new people. Please enter at least your country (and better yet - also the city) in your profile so that it shows up with your posts. That really helps all of us in understanding your posts and responding. There are big differences is price, included features, power supplies, warranties, and contractual dealer agreements depending on where you are.

Due to the frequent attempts that have recently been made to hijack our website, I will have to personally approve all membership requests. I will simply delete all requests that meet any of the following criteria:

1. If you provide a link to a commercial website

2. If you fail to enter your city, state, country in the location field

3. If you fail to provide your birth date

4. If you fail to enter any personal interests

I hope this helps our situation. Thanks. Wally

Wally,

Very reasonable requirements.

I've had to start personally approving people who register for my little software support forum, as I was getting some weird registrations with East European and Russian addresses.

Suggestion - There's a FAQ link at the top of this new board.
I think the signup rules you've outlined might be a good first thing to put there (or to display prominently in some other manner).

Yep. I'm working on having Sean bring the CVPUG FAQ over -- then I'll put it there. I did create a new announcement in the News and Updates forum.
