I just purchased a new CVP309, and have noticed that the colour LCD screen has vertical bands in the middle, left and right sides, that change depending on the screen selected. I'm wondering if this is normal, or if anyone else has experienced this.
Pics attached for for reference.

Those bands are normal for some LCD's... I've never noticed them on my piano, but I'll double check my CVP209 later and get back to you.

Hi!
I have it too on my 309GP. It's simply not the best quality display. When I first noticed it I thought it was perhaps interference from my mobile phone that was nearby, but as you point out as well, it's different from screen to screen. There seems to be vertical bleeding of dark lines as it is particularly noticable on the screens where you have buttons at the bottom, the edges of the buttons are "echoed" up the screen.

I have it on my 209 as well... The banding is much less severe than that depicted in your images, but it's there.

I have it on some but not all screen views on my CVP 209.
It is only quite faint though not very pronounced.

Thanks all, for the feedback. It is suprising that this is the norm; I expected that for the several thousand $ that I paid for this instrument, the LCD quality would be much better.
Anyway, my $.02 - hope Yamaha improves on this with next series.

it becomes apparent when you lower the brightness level.
I hope yamaha comes up with touch screen:)

This is because they use a really really cheap low quality LCD screens!!! They are not TFT, they use the old passive technology.
The Tyros 2 screen have the same problem. It is really annoying to me. Yamaha replaced my screen twice and it didn't get better.
They should consider paying about 10 bucks more in a TFT screen in the next Clavinova/Tyros line. I would pay 100 bucks more for a product with a clear screen!!!

Yamaha, in their infinite wisdom, uses a really cheap LCD in these expensive instruments. I used to own a Tyros. It had a high quality, very nice LCD display. Then I bought the newer Yamaha Tyros2. That model uses a low quality display and I think it's lousy. Even my cell phone has a better screen. Many other Tyros2 owners have complained and Yamaha UK actually replaced some LCD displays under warranty.

tomtomsf,
I totally agree with you. They replaced the LCD screen of my Tyros 2 twice under warranty, but it still the cheap ultra low quality screen!!
