View Full Version : My Thoughts

Having being a piano teacher for the past 23 years, here are a few personal thoughts as to why I enjoy teaching with my CVP105 Clavinova:

The instrument is always in tune.
Great grand piano sound. And I could never stuff a real grand piano into my apartment, even if I could afford one.
All the different voices, styles, recording capability, etc.
The price: almost the same, if not better, than what I'd have paid for a normal acoustic upright.
The ability to MIDI the Clavinova to my PC is a bonus. Now I can use any music software to record and playback. Especially enjoyable for my beginning (and advanced) students.
Volume can easily be regulated for late-night or even early-morning practice.I've been using my CVP105 for the past 8 years or so, and besides a busted floppy drive (which I replaced myself), I've nothing but praise for it. I am looking forward to the new 400 series and might swap my 105 for the 405 if the price is right.

Hi Philip,

How you seen the new cvp 405 yet??When does it come out there?

I have been searching the internet for any info. - I have got an english brochure but that it is, and I have found a good deal ( €3100), but before I order I will like to see a voice list and maybe a demo.

I have even rung Yamaha in the uk , Austria and Germany for more info!!- I wish they would update their web site!!

Hi musicman,

The 400 series is supposed to be here by end of June. Rest assured that I will be the first to get my grubby fingers on one when it arrives! And hopefully, I'll post a report here (if I can remember :) )

Hi,
You mentioned that you replaced the floppy disk drive on your clavinova. I have a CVP 65 with a broken drive. Is it easy to replace?
Thanks, ........Johnny Keyboard.........

Hi Johnny:

It should be easy to replace. You'll obviously need to open the main cabinet of the CVP65 to see its innards. I'd do that first to check that the FDD is a generic one (check the drive itself and the cable, if the brand is not Yamaha, it's probably generic).

If that's the case, then all you have to do is to purchase a normal FDD1.4MB from any computer store and replace the broken drive.

Thanks Philip, I'll give it a try. I'll open the CVP 65 first and take a look to see what I'm up against. Then I guess I'll start taking out screws until the top flips up. Thanks again for the help...........Johnny Keyboard........

I took out a lot of screws and got the clavinova off it's legs. I still don't see a way to release the top so it hinges back for access to the floppy disk drive. Any suggestions? I couldn't find my model's, CVP 65, service manual on eBay. Johnny Keyboard

Hi Philip,
I finally found the right screw and released the top. I have the disk drive out and will try to find a new one tommorrow. Thanks again for your help and encouragement. Johnny Keyboard
