Hi,
I am using this feature a lot. It is really excellent. But the problem I am having is when I load midi files the wrong channel shows. I tried to save the right channel in the registration memory with each song but it remembers the song but not what channel to show on the score. IS there a setting I need to change??
Thanks
Nigel

Hi!
No, unfortunately it doesn't save these settings with each file - it is not part of the MIDI standard. Every time you open a new MIDI file, if the two tracks you want aren't 1 and 2, you'll need to go into Setup on the Score screen to select the right ones.
(So basically if you're going to want to do that alot, always record according to that. I used to do that for that very thing, but stopped for other reasons; now considering to go back though)

Hi!
Actually, there is a method in the CVP for saving the score setting that best suits you and associating it to a MIDI file.
Follow this procedure:
(1) Make a copy of the original MIDI file (it's always a good practice...) and apply the following steps to your own copy.
(2) Select DIGITAL RECORDING and then SONG CREATOR.
(3) Press the SCORE button and, by using the SETUP button (bottom right on the screen) and the sliding arrows, select the staves of the score you wish to associate to the right channel (track 1) and to the left channel (track 2). Suppose, for instance, that you associate staff 4 to track 1 and staff 5 to track 2, so as to be able to read them on the screen and play them yourself with your right and left hand, respectively.
(4) Then press OK, exit from the SCORE function and go to the CHANNEL folder of SONG CREATOR.
(5) Select the SETUP function by the sliding arrows on the left part of the screen (this SETUP is quite a different function from that used in step 3, despite its name).
(6) Ensure that the checkbox named "SCORE SETTING" is marked ON (if not, do it by using the sliding arrows on the screen).
(7) Then select EXECUTE and SAVE the file after the execution has been completed (you may overwrite the file copy you started from).
At this point, when you select the new MIDI file you have obtained and activate the SCORE function, you should get the score setting you like, i.e. the right and left tracks associated to the appropriate staves (in my example, staff 4 for the right hand and staff 5 for the left hand).
Needless to say, I'm assuming (and hoping for you) that the new CVP-407 you've just got follows the same screen flows and human-machine interface as the CVP-307 I'm using. But I can't believe the functions I've mentioned above are likely to disappear from any model.

I think I am more amazed with the people and what they are doing with their instrument than the instrument itself. It would have taken me another year or so to figure that out Carlo! Thanks for all your tips.

Hi!
I use Execute Setup often, but had actually not noticed that there was a Score setting as well! I guess because I never use the score display anymore...
Good that you caught it Carlo!

Thanks Carlo for that!!
That works perfectly. I am just getting some midi files ready for a karaoke party and I want to play the piano part by muting the piano tracks and using the score feature to read the music.

PS I hope the heat is not getting to you too much!!

Hi!
I'm happy to see that my piece of advice was useful to a lot of people.
Indeed, the configurability of the score feature, and the way to get it, should be put in more evidence in the official Yamaha manuals...
To Nigel:
Thanks for your thought about Italian climate in these weeks. We had very hot temperatures (even 35°C and beyond) and plenty of fires in woods, but in these last days some storms have mitigated the overall situation.

Hi!
The storms have blown the heat and humidity up north, to me. The day before yesterday I had 41 degrees C in my music room... A lamp in the window melted (a cheap plastic part of it)! The CVP is still holding up well though...

Unbelievable!
And I suppose that the effect gets also increased by the long duration of daylight typical of northern latitudes in this time of year.
As an additional note to my previous post, it seems that the basic layout of the human-machine interface (both buttons and screen flows) has been kept very similar (if not identical) between the CVP3XX and CVP4XX series.
This means that many of the new CVP4XX buyers will find useful information and tips in the threads accumulated in the past three years within the User Group.
That's a very good news, I daresay.
