Hi!
I would like to propose to the fellow members of the User Group a subject to think upon in these summer days, also based on the fact that there have been in the last weeks recent buyers of both CVP-3XX and CVP-4XX models.
The question is the this:
What kind of "learning path" have you followed or are going to follow while playing your CVP?
I'll make myself clearer, by telling you my answer.
After unpacking the big toy and getting a minimal orientation on the dashboard of buttons, knobs, leds, screen flows, etc., I embarked myself in a sort of eager "random walk" amongst the basic functions of the CVP (in this phase the user manual was actually useful), tried the preset voices and mostly would play along with midi files of various genres.
Then, having digested the basic operations necessary to get a meaningful result, I sprang for a "big leap": that was the production of the notorious "Suoni la Tromba" from Bellini's Puritani. That was originally far beyond my forces and abilities, but then it got "consolidated" little by little thanks to the comments collected from the User Group.
Next I decided to start with a "new frontier" approach, and learnt to use the styles and the harmonic notation common in fake books, of which I was totally unaware until then. And this brought about an actual increase of my musical culture.
Then I went back to more familiar territories and started from well-known didactic pieces (4-hands piano compositions), in order to consider them in a new perpective and begin a "progressive development" of more structured abilities (musical analysis, orchestration, expression, etc.), still at a rather basic level.
The point is that, from time to time, it is nice to interrupt any of the engaged learning path (at an appropriate "milestone", I mean when you believe to have reached a new level) and look around in search for new motivations.
Now, I raise again my question.
How much of:
(1) random walk
(2) big leaps and consolidation
(3) new frontier
(4) progressive development
(5) anything else
have you experimented or are willing to experiment with the help of our beloved CVP's ?
I apologise in advance if this post may seem intrusive in someone's privacy, but I think it can be interesting to share this type of experience.
Best regards,
