Hi!

Get the GP model - it pours pints. At least there's always somehow a glass of wine on mine. :)

ALNOR@SUPANET.COM[QUOTE=dbjorck;12909]Hi!

Hi, Danny, Sorry this the only way I could find you & others who helped me pre Xmas.(My being very much a novice)
Remember over many threads, you finaly convinced me that midi files are only instructions & the sender just instructs the host keyboard to sound its own instruments.I made the point that some sounds I get are not
in my cvp 309, a PANFLUTE sound I,ve attached is much much better than anything I can find in the YAMAHA.
Also the PANFLUTE sounds the same in my other keyboards and computers.
I now this is raking all this up again but should I not be hearing different PANFLUTE sounds from different keyboards etc. ALEX

Hi,

you can see that the sound is not inside the file from it's size (36.5 KB) !

Hi!

Yes, MIDI is still only instructions and does not contain any sounds.

The first file is using CalliopeLead, which you'll find by pressing Up when selecting voice, go to page 2, select "GM & XG", page 2, SynthLead, and on page 3 you should have CalliopeLead.

The second uses Sweet! PanFlute, which you'll find directly under the Flute & Woodwind button.

In both cases extra effects have been added though, especially the second file which uses a lot more vibrato and reverb. You can change these using the Mixing Console or the Sound Creator. Adding reverb and vibrato to a voice is indeed an instruction, not a sound.

Finally, as to them sounding the same on any piece of equipment; the first voice is part of a standard (the GM and the XG standards) and *should* sound *basically* the same. In reality there will be minor differences though, but usually too little to hear. In the second case, Sweet! voices are unique to Yamaha, but due to the added reverb and vibrato it can be hard to hear the difference. But I can certainly hear the difference when playing it on my PC, which only has GM/XG. Try revoicing it to the PanFlute GM/XG voice on the 309 (under the Pipes category), and you should hear the difference too. A lot less "volume/ambiance" and vibrato as well (as it is already included in the Sweet! voice so it gets doubled)

Thanks again Danny great stuff I,m learning from you. (The penny is begining to drop )
Does the same theory apply to rythmn sounds. ALEX

Hi!

Yes, indeed, all sounds. There is nothing to my knowledge in the MIDI standard that allows you to add a sound sample to it.
