Any advice appreciated on connecting my new 403 to my home wireless network.

I already have a Belkin G +MIMO wireless router and I've 'borrowed' a USB wireless adaptor out of my son's PC. It's a F5D9050.

First problem was security on the network. My network is set up to use WPA whereas from what I can tell the 403 only understands WEP. I can change the network but my work laptop can't access WEP, so I'll have to keep changing from WEP to WPA depending if I want to use my laptop or 403.

Having changed to WEP for the purpose of testing the 403, I set the internet pages up and no luck, didn't seem to find the network. Is the 403 able to use the F5D9050? I'll do it again in a minute and tell you the precise settings and error message.

I'm going to give their tech support a call shortly, but not having used them before I'm not sure how good they are, especially on networks. Anyway, just hoping someone out there may have come across this before.

Any help appreciated.

I've attached a 2007 Compatible Device List for the CVP403. I got the list at the following website (bottom of the page) at Yamaha:

http://music.yamaha.com/products/downloads.html?productId=612124&hierarchy_id=20017_20018_16277

It does not appear that the wireless LAN adapter that you mentioned is compatible. I recently puchased the Planex (top of the page on the Device List) wireless LAN adapter and it works fine. The Buffalo adapter is not currently available in the US as far as I can determine. It may be available outside the US.

EDIT: You may need to download the newest "Firmware" for your piano. It's on the same page as the device list, near the top. The firmware upgrade is what enables the Planex and Buffalo devices. I think the other list of wireless adapters at the bottom of the device list are those that are no longer generally available on the market; although they are probably still compatible with the piano.

BTW, the Planex Adapter, I think, is only WEP capable also. It's curious to me that your laptop is not WEP capable. It's a slightly lower security standard and is more commonly a default encryption method than WPA which, I think, is the highest level of encryption.

Thanks Rod,

Yamaha tech support showed me how to get a list out the 403 as well, but advised me the USB wireless adaptor I have ISNT compatible.

Given the need to buy a new adaptor and the WEP / WPA issue, I have taken the Yamaha tech advice to use a Ethernet / wireless bridge (aka gaming adaptor) to connect rather than the USB. That way the Ethernet bridge will be WPA compatible.

Been out and bought it (£40) - doesn't work! I have a feeling I have a duff bridge as none of the control lights etc. seem to be working correctly and none of my computers can talk to it to configure it. Going back to the shop to get it changed in the nice busy Friday night traffic - joy!

Yippee,

Now that I have an adaptor that works, configuring it was pretty easy, and the 403 has now linked up to my wireless network and is accessing the music on the web. Will start exploring properly over the weekend.
