Hi,

I studied the CVP 40x series manuals and found that CVP 405 and upper models have a setting for string-resonance, but the cheaper models dont.
Can I follow from this, that the CVP 403 has no string resonance?
The advertising doesnt say much about this.

403 and upper models have keyoff samples. (I am unsure about the 401)
I studied the data list manual and found that no - even not the most advanced models do send or receive keyoff-velocity MIDI events.

Does that mean, that keyoff noises are not recorded in midi files or is this handled otherwise? Some of the most advanced computer-piano instruments use keyoff-velocity, so that might be an unfortunate choice by YAMAHA.

Hi!

On the 309 the key-off certainly gets recorded in the MIDI just fine. I would expect ALL 4xx models to do the same. The harpsichord is a prime example. It would not sound the same without key off. It may be that you just can't set it manually on the lower end models, but it should definitely record and play back correctly.

Hi dbjork,

I am aware that the CVP403 and upper models have keyoff samples, but according to the MIDI implementation list they dont send or receive keyoff velocity.
So they should generate keyoff noises with constant loudness or with the same loudness as the keyon velocity.

Advanced piano simulators use keyoff velocity to emulate the noise of a released key and the loudness is proportional to release speed.
Because I want brush up the sounds I investigated wether it would be better to buy a cvp403 or buy a laptop + software and keep my cvp 96. I am quite impressed by pianoteq:
http://www.pianoteq.com.

Also the CP300 doesnt support Keyoff velocity.
I also looked to the competition ;-)
I have also studied ROLAND manuals and even the low-end RD300 GX sends keyoff velocity and has string resonance and piano designer.
The higher modell RD 700 GX has rolands high end keyboard with artificial ivory...
I got the impression, that Yamaha removes too much features from lower end models. (However, I dont think, that the CVP 403 is low end, especially the price is not low end ;-)

regards,

Peter
