Hi,

I'm glad I got on the board - although it appears that discussion is rather limited these days in comparison with a few years ago.

My daughter and I currently play the clavinova's that her piano teacher has for a group class. We have wanted one for as long as she has been taking lessons (we do have a beautiful older Baldwin baby grand that she wouldn't trade for a Clavinova).

I've been scoping out the gray market for the past few months - I've missed a couple of decent models on Ebay, but don't have anyone within 500 miles selling a decent model for a song on Craigslist.

I'm currently using a bid from a Ohio dealer to see if my local Clavinova dealer will come down from nearly $4000 on a 401 to the $2600 quoted by the Ohio dealer.

I've read all the comments about getting a higher model - and if I could have snagged 207 or 307 for the same $'s I would - but I simply can't justify spending over $3000 at this time. So, the lowest model 400 series is currently looking like the most attractive one to me.

I don't want to mess with a Euro-model with the lack of warranty, etc.

If anyone knows of another option with my money limitations - please let me know.

Thanks,

Jim

Hi Jim. The big difference I see in the instruments are the size of the sound system and whether or not the instrument has iAFC. That is why the 307 is really the better deal. That price you quoted in your other posting is a steal.

If you are just looking for a piano with recording capabilities, don't overlook the CLP series. I paid 3000 for my CLP in Canada about 4 years ago or so. I'm sure they have come down since then but I'm not certain my model is still available. It has 16 track recording and a large number of voices.

Be very careful of the grey market but do look around for a used one... and may be worth having shipped by a reputable carrier.

Good luck. No matter what you choose, they are a superb practice instrument.

Thanks for the reply... I was beginning to wonder if anyone still read this forum.

My wife put the kibosh on buying one during these uncertain times - but I'll keep squirreling my money aside until I can pay cash.
