View Full Version : In a Persian Market by Albert Ketèlby.
Hi,
Recently I heard the above music and was totally enchanted with it. Better still I may even be able to play it. So I am now looking for a two piano reduction score. Any Suggestions or advice?
Thanks.

I've never heard of "two-piano reduction" before.....I'm guessing it's similar to a duet?? Are you planning on playing it with a fellow pianist? Or are you aiming to record one part and play along as the second? Sounds interesting!
If it's just the standard version there are tons of MIDIs out there....nice ones too.
Cheers.
I would have liked to get the orchestra score but I am not sure I know how to record the various instruments. A reduction perhaps will permit me to record piano on one channel and the orchestra (other than piano) on another channel or two.
I have already downloaded a piano midi and it is not as good as the orchestral version. Do you know of an orchestral midi to download?
Thanks.

Hi,
It's weird this. My auntie asked me to sell some of her Dad's scores for her a short while back, I remember "In a Persian Market" being one of them.....only piano solo though, as they all were. Other than that and your question I've never heard of it.
There must be loads of places that sell the score, I found one here:
http://www.musicroom.com/imagezoom.aspx?product_id=46879
......pricey, but I didn't do much hunting. Having said that I suppose it'll be quite rare now.
I have recorded multi-track songs before, but I've never fully transcribed an orchestral score - I bet it would be very rewarding to do so though! The programme I use is available as a fully functional time-limited demo:
www.notation.com (obviously you'd need the "Composer" version).
I love this programme....but if you do try it please take a bit of time to get used to the commands and shortcuts as it is a very capable programme and will produce a beautiful score for you if you put the effort in. They are also having one hell of a Christmas sale too!!!
Good luck with the transcription!
PS: I had a quick look for an orchestral MIDI version but had no luck.
Hi MikeyMike,
Thank you for your help. Before I make any decisions I will first visit our local music store within the next two weeks and see what they have available. May be I will feel couragous enough to try to record the orchestral score if it is available.
I am not sure I want to use a software to record (I do not know anything about them). I will first try recording on the CVP and take it from there.

No probs Joe......if I were you though I would at least try the software from Notation. It's free (30 day trial). You might like it. You might not.
To be honest I'm not sure you are aware of the flexibility within the software - i.e. you can use your CVP's keyboard to input the data just as you would with the in-built 16 track recorder, but a lot more easily (especially when it comes to editing). Not to mention the program will print a score that will literally make your eyes water, beautiful they are.
I hated my 309 for recording & editing tracks/scores.....I preferred my older 107 by far for this purpose, but that's a different story :) .
Good luck anyway,
Mike.
Hi,
I could not wait so I went to our local music store. They only had the score for piano solo. So I purchased it. I also ordered the CD from Amazon.com which should be delivered in a couple of weeks.
The piano solo does not do the composition justice.
I will definetly try the software from Notation soon. Thank you for your suggestion.

OK Joe....good luck with it.
If you do try the program please don't hesitate to ask if you need help......not that I'm an expert or anything, but I perhaps do know a few bits and bobs.
Cheers,
Mike.
