Hi, I am new to this forum. I live in San Mateo, CA.

I have a Clavinova CVP-65 that I purchased used many years ago & have not played it much. I started to play it recently & discovered that all of the keys make a clunking sound when the key returns. It is uniform to the entire keyboard. I spoke with a dealer who thought replacing the felt might solve the problem. Do you think this might fix it and, if so, do you know how to open it up to get at the felt? More important, how easy will it be to put it back together? I have the user manual but it doesn't offer any information on getting inside the piano. If there is a service manual for this model it might help but I don't have one. As an alternative to trying to fix the problem, I am considering getting another digital piano with graded hammer action. Any suggestions on both issues would be appreciated. Thanks.

Personally, I would prefer getting a new piano. The keyboard will feel better, it will sound better, and you'll have newer and better features.

However, the one you have can be fixed. I would strongly suggest -- no matter which CVP you own -- that you purchase the service manual from Yamaha. The Service Manual will give you step by step instructions how to disassemble any portion of the instrument.

You might also consider just buying a whole new keyboard module for your CVP. It's a bit pricey, but it'll let you get along for another five or six years before you have to invest in another instrument.

Best wishes,
Wally
