I've had my CVP-208 four weeks now, and have notice a very slight buzzing sound coming from just to the right of the LCD panel. It really is very quiet, but noticable when sitting at the piano but not playing any notes. It sounds like the fluoresecent light behind the LCD buzzing.
Has anyone else noticed this, or is this perhaps a fault with my CVP-208? Any advice from other CVP-2xx owners here, before I call my dealer for a warranty repair.
Thankyou.

Hi
Have a play with the contrast control to see if it goes or gets worse. You will find it under one of the Function menus.
I brought a small device the other day which has a LCD display and that made a load buzz when the contrast was at a certain level.

Okay, with a bit more investigation I've established that it's not the LCD buzzing, but the right panel controls. When I turn the Clavinova on, the buzzing appears after about 4 seconds, just as the various panel lights (e.g. registration, reverb, DSP, Voice) come on.
I'm probably going to have to call Yamaha, but has anyone else ever noticed a buzzing sound from either the left of right panel controls?

The Yamaha repair man called today. He listened to the buzzing sound, and said that it's normal. Evidently, I have to expect a certain amount of background sound from the electronics in a Clavinova.
So, does anyone know if this is normal? It is only a quiet buzz from the right hand panel controls. We can hear it when sitting at the piano in a silent room, but obviously as soon as you start playing it can't be heard.

The buzzing is definitely not normal. The right hand area is the location of the power transformer which could be the source of the buzzing. The period after the relay clicks and the lights come on is when the transformer and power supply would be at full load.
I would insist that the unit be opened to find the source of the noise and if it is the power transformer or the adjacent power supply it should be repaired.
The only sound my 207 makes when powered up is the click of the relay then it's perfectly quiet even with the volume at maximum or until I cause it to make noise.
Good luck

Hello,
Was the repair man from the dealer or Yamaha? I would call Yamaha tech support and ask them directly, even send a few emails. I purchased a cvp-208 last month and I can't hear a noticeable buzzing when sitting at the piano. When I put my ear close to right panel I can hear what appears to be a transformer humming sound. It is a very very quiet noise, I hope it doesn't get worse with time. For a comparison I put my ear to the speaker and I can actually hear about the same level of noise from it. Hope this helps!! Please keep us informed, I would like to know if there is a problem with the transformers.

I checked my CVP 209 late last night when the house was quiet and I could not hear any buzzing at all.

At last, the house is quite. There is NO sounds what ever coming from the panel. There is however a very faint Mains Hum but this is only heard if I put my ear ON the right of the panel.
May I suggest you get him back and check the mounting of the power transformer. Maybe something is touching it and that is making the buzzing noise.

I have a CVP 209 and I noticed a very slight buzzing, more like a hum, from the right hand side of the Clavinova. I can barely hear it when the room is completely quite and I'm sitting right in front of the piano if I listen for it. When I place my ear against the Clavinova under the right hand size panel then I hear it better. When I first heard it, it use to bother me.. now I don't even notice it or hear it.. it may be gone.. I don't know.
What I would do is find a dealer that has the 209 or 208 on display and see if you can hear the same buzzing sound that you hear on yours. Of course the dealer's store won't be quite, but it might give you an idea if your Clavinova is making more noise than a normal one. This is what I did when I heard some slight ringing sounds on certain notes, I went to the dealer where I bought the Clavinova to make sure mine wasn't the only one I heard it on. Or maybe one of the fine folks here on this newsgroup lives near you and you can visit them. I live in Northern VA if your in this area your more than welcome to see if my Clavinova humming sound is the same one you hear.

Thanks for all the replies everyone - it's just what these sort of forums are for! I've talked to my dealer again, and he assures me it was a Yamaha engineer that looked at my Clavinova. the guy did seem very knowledgable, talking about some of the facilities Yamaha UK have at Milton Keynes for training their engineers.
I'm slightly reassured that others can hear a very quiet sound. I do have particularly keen sense of sound, so I may be being more critical. I'll take a visit to my dealer at the weekend and have a listen at the CVP-210 they've got in the showroom. I'm most concerned that it doesn't get any worse - most of the time I can't hear it above the sound of the PC running in the same room!
Once again, thanks everyone.
