I played on a CVP 96 almost a decade ago for a church. After growing up in a musical family and playing the piano since I could walk, not having a good instrument in the house for the last few years has made me really miss playing. All I had was a Roland JV90, a fine stage/performance instrument, but no piano replacement.

I played on the 400-series at a dealer, and really liked the features of the 407 but (don't shun me...) actually preferred the GH3 keyboard to the natural wood. Maybe I just have heavier hands, or my touch has been destroyed by a bad keyboard I've been playing on recently (not the JV90). I also thought the layout of the 300-series controls was a lot nicer than the 2-rows of the 400-series (plus a few missing controls as highlighted by other CVPUG users). So I was really excited to find a good deal on a well-taken-care-of 307 in my home state.

It sounds beautiful, plays wonderfully... I will enjoy it for many years! My only complaint so far is not having any clue which style intro/variation I'm on, since I'm red/green colorblind. But I can usually remember in my mind which one I clicked last, so it's not a huge deal. That and it doesn't support my 8gig flash drive, but I can fit plenty of files on my wife's 1Gig. iAFC, score display, USB support.... awesome instrument!

And thanks to the CVPUG for helping me make my decision. Lots of good information here!

Bummer... it didn't change my thread title. Well, I have a 307 now instead of a 407, and I'm perfectly happy (ecstatic is more like it). Let the music begin!!!

I just sold my CVP-307. Waiting for my new CVP-407. It will be here in two weeks. Now I have to practice on my acoustic baby grand. It looks great but doesn't sound anywhere near as good as a clavinova. Lots of people say no matter how good a digital piano gets an acoustic will always sound better. That is a half truth. There are lots of acoustic pianos that sound really bad. There might be an acoustic piano that sounds better than a Clavinova but you'd need to sell your house to afford it.

I agree totally with you on having to sell your house to afford that piano. If you don't mind me asking ( I own a 307), what did you sell the 307 for?

I sold my CVP307 for $4000. Then of course I used the money to buy my CVP-407. I haven't gotten my 407 yet but it is supposed to be here this week. I hope it comes soon. I am just finishing memorizing Chopin's Nocturne in B major Op.9, No.3. I memorized all nine pages and I just need to do the waterfall run on the last page. It is the third Nocturne I memorized and each one is a milestone in building my piano technique. Chopin sounds so good on a Clavinova! My next song to learn will be a nine page transcription of Funny Valentine by Marion McPartland. Then I will be back to learning the Chopin Nocturne in F# minor. Piano is my only hobby now. Very time consuming but very rewarding.

Thanks $4000 is a fair resale price. That's great on the memorization of Chopin pieces. And Marian McPartland's "My Funny Valentine" sounds good. I regularly listen to her show on "Piano Jazz" on NPR. Great show, if you haven't checked it out you may want to.
