Guys,
I am about to purchase a CVP, having been playing a Yamaha DGX220 Portable Grand keyboard for about 2 years now. I started in music, having a background playing the violin, so I could read music already.

I am at the stage of being self taught with the "Easy Listening" music scores. But I now want to "get serious" in my retirement and get some lessons and a GOOD digital piano.

The dilema I have here in Australia is - which CVP do I need? The music store of course had been trying to get me to buy the 405 which at around $AUS9,000 is a bit too much money.

What do I need? Do I really need Super Articulated Voices, or 120 pre set songs? One dealer was adamant that the 403 and 405 "looked" so much better than the 401 - I really don't care that much about the looks.

At the moment I am willing to pay up to AUS$5,000 but that only gets me a 401, or at one store for AUS$5,450 I can get a demo 405!.

Should I stretch the budget to the demo or get a new 401?

This demo won't last long so I need to know fairly soon what the group would suggest that I purchase.

Hi,
the 403 and up have the GH3 keyboard, while the 401 only has a GHS keyboard.
I believe that you would not get much improvement over your current keyboard if you choose a 401.
Also the 403 and up has Megavoices. Even if you dont want the Megavoices, you should consider that a lot styles exist that need them. So if you have Megavoices you can choose from a broader selection of styles.
Simply go to the Yamaha Website and check which styles are available for the 401 and which are available for the 403 and 405.

I personally think that a 405, offered for that price, is the better choice.
I yet have to find a dealer here with such an offer. Here the 403 costs 1000 Euro more than the 401 and the 405 is about 2000 Euro more.

I was attempted to buy a 403. Yamaha recently raised the prices and then I stopped all this plans. Currently I use a CVP96 and a very good software piano. Finally I would end up to buy an expensive CVP but I would loose the high End Amplifier and Speakers that I currently have in the CVP 96 which is a former high end model.

Hope this helps,

Peter

Peter,
Thanks for the advice, I guess I will have a look at the 401 and the 405 in the music shop and go from there. I also think that the extra for the demo 405 as against the 401 new price is a good deal.
