Can anyone confirm that the polished ebony finish of the CLP-170 Clavinova normally costs more than the other available finishes (dark rosewood, cherry and mahogany)?

That's what I have been told, but I'm not sure why that should be the case.

If there is a legitimate reason for a higher price, then what price differential is considered reasonable?

Thanks for any information you can share.

In the UK, CLP170 RRP is £2385 for Rosewood, Cherry, or Mahogany. £2915 for the High Gloss Black. So, a price premium of £530, or 22%.

I can confirm that my local Yamaha dealer in the Midwest US is quoting higher a price for the ebony CLP-170 than for the other wood-grain units of the same model. The difference in quoted price was almost $500.

I have heard the very same thing - an additional (U.S.) $500 premium over the mahogany color I chose 9 months ago. The reason I was told by Yamaha was because the finishing process takes longer as it includes several extra coats of the high-gloss laquer finish that the woodgrain models do not need.
