Can you remove the CVP8 from the legs and use as a portable keyboard? I have someone willing to give me their old CVP8, but I want to be able to take it on gigs. Thanks for any/all replies.

If you go to the Yamaha user manual site:
http://www.yamaha.co.jp/manual/english/search.php?div=emi
you can download the manual. In the "Search by Model Name" type in cvp8 and download the cvp10-cvp8 cvp6 manual.

Personally I would say no to trying to use it for gigs. I used to have a CVP3 many years ago, and it was incredibly heavy. The manual for CVP8 says it is 51 kg/112 lbs: that's an awful lot to be lumbering about on gigs. As I recall most of that weight was the keyboard itself, unmounting the legs will not make it much lighter. There is a reason they had portable models as well already then (such as the Portatones).

I have one of these I obtained for free in order to fix it. If I remember correctly 4 screws anchor it to the lower part and legs. The speakers are down facing into a baffle designed to give the piano a realistic sound. I think you would be much better off finding a weighted action controller or a Yamaha S80 to play out. They are heavy as well but are constructed to be moved about. Then you can leave the "Nova" set up all the time and park the roadie in the corner after gigs. Truly a luxury but worth it!
