Hi Everyone.
My name is Colin Bubb and I live in Cape Town, South Africa. I was very sad to discover that I was no longer able to replace my old conventional Yamaha organ when it finally gave up the ghost almost 2 years ago. Rather reluctantly, I then purchased a new CVP 407 and after much floundering, I eventually started finding my way around this incredible piece of technology. Still today I find it so exciting when I lift the lid to start playing and constantly discover new sounds. My main ambition is to work out how the multi-track recording function works. I have always prided myself in managing to figure out how gadgets work without the manuals, but in this case, even with the manual, I have been defeated every time. Even my musical friends from my era are completely out-smarted by this function. I would, therefore, appreciate any help or advice that anyone has to offer in getting started with this feature. This is truly a wonderful instrument and I can't help wondering how the Yamaha gurus can try to improve on it!!
Aside from my music, I also have a small business manufacturing rosettes for sporting events and many animal and bird shows. This keeps me out of mischief!
Thank you and cheerio!

Hi, Colin!

Welcome to the CVP User Group!

As for the multitrack recording issue, there is a legendary thread started by our fellow member Danny Bjorck, which you can find at this link (http://cvpug.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1740&highlight=multitrack) (look up, in particular, in post #10).

It can surely put you on the right track.
Good luck!

Best regards,

Manuals get confusing if you skip to many parts and go thru them to fast..

Take it easy, step by step,,,, ;)

Kind regards

Hi!

Welcome Colin!

Wow, Carlo, way to dig up such an old post when the search engine doesn't work properly! It was great fun rereading. I had forgotten a lot of it - even the 15 year period when I didn't record anything! It really feels right now like I've had my CVP all my life, nothing else, and always been recording. :) As to the "rules" in that post, they've changed slightly over the years as I've gotten accustomed. When I reread it, there were several points where I thought that "no, you don't need that". But then I realized I still do it, I just don't think about it anymore, it's become second nature. LOL. The only point I really do differently is to start with volume levels around 80, not 100 - that gives more room for adjustment. (And some points I'm too lazy to do now, but they are still valid)

Anyways Colin, that long boring humungous list may be as daunting as the manual. You may want to try starting simpler. Recording some duet for instance, by pressing Rec and 1, and then playing the keyboard you'll record the first track. Then press Rec and 2, and play the other voice on the keyboard to record the second track. From there on, just use the CVPUG as a manual! Just tell us what you want to do and what the problem/query is, and we'll try to give you a solution.

Brgds

Danny
