NEW Yamaha Clavinova CVP-509 has ARRIVED!!! - Photos included!

Well, folks...
I never thought I'd do it, but I couldn't resist the CVP-509. This and my Access Virus Ti 2 keyboard are the first big-ticket items that I have bought without seeing in person.

Thankfully, I have no regrets with either. The CVP-509 HAS to be seen and heard to fully appreciate.

iAFC is actually NOT the gimmick I thought it would be. It works well. The benefit is seen by leaving SPACE behind the Clavinova, and not have it's beautiful case butted up against a wall (as I have seen most Clavinovas set up and many photos).

The screen is also significantly better than the CVP-400 series. It's bright and has an even look especially in the score view...the photo is actually worse than in real life.

The rear legs and the pedal box are NOT as nicely finished as the CVP-400 and even CVP-300 series. They are just plain black matte wood (legs) or plastic (pedal box). The pedal box is just a plain box, now and not nicely bevelled. This was likely to keep costs down.


Thanks to Cosmo Music in Richmond Hill (and the 2 guys making cameo appearances in the photos) for the delivery!

orry to hear that Yamaha cheapened up the rear legs and pedal box. I think this is a poor decision in a piano that cost so many thousands of dollars.

You're welcome. Yes, "surrounded" is a good way to put it! Using some pianosoft titles that I downloaded along with the built-in songs, I don't even have to play the Clavinova and it sounds great! It has a very "airy" and "open" sound without being over-processed which I felt was missing in other models.

I know. I was still shocked at the price. I thought there would be a lower price as a result, but it looks like the other improvements (better screen, newer CFIIIs samples, more sounds, etc.) are Yamaha's justification for keeping the price high. Oh well...better that than discontinuing the CVP series in order to keep costs down and thus maintaining the more popular CLP series alive....

I have always been more of a "synthesist" and never really a piano player, but the Clavinova replaces my Kurzweil K2600XS (88 key weighted synth workstation which was also my master controller for all my synths).

Good point. I still regret selling my Waldorf Pulse+ synth module, and more recently, my Yamaha KX-5 (as "Keytars" are growing in popularity again). Oh, and imagine the possibilities controlling the CVP with a keytar. Nice.

Very nice! Thanks for sharing. I actually saw a re-issue Fender Rhodes (or Mark IV - sorry for my lack of knowledge) and it looked and sounded awesome! It was at the store where I bought my CVP-509, but I can't seem to find ANY online pictures or information about this re-issue.

Yep, the nice thing is the cvp responds to pitch-bend-wheel, modulation-wheel, after-touch and all sorts of other midi CC's

Although the cvp does not have this stuff, the voices are programed to respond to this over midi.:cool:

I already pickt-up a broken Novation Supernova II keys.
Best thing is, I contacted Novation for parts and they are gonna send them to me for free!!! , that's what I call service :cool: :cool:

After your post, I also bought a CVP-509PE. I called Yamaha up and asked them why they changed the back legs and the pedal box. Their relpy was:

1. To keep cost down they (Yamaha 's Engineers) changed the back legs becuase no one really sees them. The piano is usually against a back wall.
2. To keep cost down, but will have no impact on quality or function.

Did not get the 509 yet. I had to order it and will come by the end of the month.

P.S. The style (looks) is OK. I kind of like the 209, 309, 409 style more. But the sound is really good.
