Are there any owners of the CVP-509 who are also familiar with the sound of an acoustic grand piano who have tweaked the sound of the GrandPiano1 sample to be more to their liking? Turning on iAFC, increasing the damper effect and increasing the sustain sample make for a much richer (I originally said 'warmer', but richer is more correct) sound. As I don't have access to an acoustic piano I can't judge whether I'm over doing this resonance feature or not. Any recommendations? Any personal preferences?

Sorry, I can't make any recommendations. I guess my ears aren't that finely tweaked. I LOVE all the sounds of the piano. Good luck with a much better answer to your question.

Here is my setup for the GrandPiano1 of the CVP-509. My neighbour has a Yamaha C3 grand piano and I do my best... but... the acoustic grand sounds a little better. :rolleyes:

Setup for ca. 70% max. volume.

iAFC = ON
Dynamic Damper Effect = 107
Spatial Effect = 23

Voice setup

Piano
Curve = stretch
Key Off = 4
Sustain Sample = 6
String Resonance = 10

Common
Volume = 110
Depth = 64
Offest = 64

Controller
Half Pedal point = 2

Sound
All Zero but
Reles. = 28

Effect/EQ
Reverb Depth = 2
Chorus = 0
DSP = Off

EQ
Gain 80HZ = +3dB

Thats the setup for the speakers. For Headphone ( Audio Technika M50 ) is all the same, only the gain 80HZ = -6dB

Thanks for this setup. I see that you've increased the bass and almost removed the reverb. Do you play at 70% volume? I need a detached property to accommodate the full potential of the 509 amplifier!

Do you play at 70% volume?

Not all the time. But at 65 % - 70 % the sound is very authentic and I love it. ( I always and only use the pure pianomode ). 95% from the features of the instrument I donīt need. But I want a Piano with a big scoredisplay, midi from/to USB and guidelamps for the other persons of my family.

Yes, the CVP-509 has nearly the same phonelevel like a concert grand. Iīm a lucky guy cause I have a detached property.

I'm hoping to do some arranging in the future. Yes, the big score display and guide lamps are some of the reasons why I got the 509, including SA2 and iAFC. But I'm concentrating on improving my pianistic abilities at the moment.

This is good to know. I've been wondering what level I need to have the volume to sound authentic. Is 70% volume 2 or 3 o'clock on the volume knob?

Nearly 2 oīclock, but with my setup this is the "finest sound level". The "authentic volume level" ist nearly 100%. ( All imho )

I've been playing around with voice settings, EQ and compressor. Anyone been adjusting their master compressor settings? Can anyone explain what the master compressor presets actually do? I moved it to "Dance Floor" then increased EQ "low" gain by 6, reduced GP1 brightness substantially and increased touch sense depth by 10. For some romantic ballads I've been playing, it sounds extraordinary. The dynamic range or expression is greatly increased or exaggerated.

Hi everyone, I have the fantastic CVP-505. I just could not afford the prices here in Australia for the 509...and my dealer said he couldn't get that model...(maybe too dear for the shop also!)

The only thing I really miss on the CVP-505 is that Yamaha decided NOT to include (the very important) STRING RESONANCE. I really notice this as I also have a 7 ft Kawai grand. But I love the CVP as it is always in tune and the CF111S piano sound is awesome. However it lacks the string resonance.

Can anyone please advise me how I can alter the piano voice to make for a more authentic sound, considering there is no string resonance?
I would be most grateful for any suggestions. Many thanks!

Yes, I've played around with the compressor a lot. It makes much more of a difference than the iAFC. But there is no optimal setting, it depends on your taste, the mood of the piece, and the room you're in. You just have to try and see repeatedly until you are satisifed. Try also to layer the voice with a second piano. My favourite voice has GP1 layered with MellowPiano, where it is heavy on reverb - that gives a larger and rounder sound (in my room anyway).

Brgds
