I sometimes look after my mother's cats. My CVP has had a few close encounters with the cats' claws. These cats can go berserk and gallop over everything chasing each other and using their sharp claws for traction. Luckily, so far, they haven't managed to rip into the CVP. But it's been causing me great anxiety. I've managed to track down a suitable piano cover. Doesn't look bad! I've tried using blankets and table covers, but they always manage to pull them off!

The cover I got is the Leatherette (Black). A very reasonable £27.99! And it's made to order. I added a note to say the Clavinova's body is 25cm deep at the back, to make sure there was skirt of material all around the body to protect it. It took three weeks to arrive. They can't be made in the UK for that price.

I took another photo. My cheap modern camera is rubbish in low light. My 10 year old video camera, although only 640x480 stills, is far superior.

Make sure the cats don't use the legs as a scratching post.

Just slightly out of view of the camera are two cat scratching posts, which they love to use. I just hope they don't discover the speaker material!

Hi!
I'm afraid I'm not sure that is protection enough... It's a dust cover, right? They tend to be quite thin as all they are designed to do, is stop dust from landing on it. Cat's claws are however quite long... If the cover is thin, maybe you could sew a thick blanket underneath to be sure?

Danny (proud owner of two very well behaved cats, they know not to scratch anything or eat any plants; if I see them contemplating something they're not supposed to do, all I do is say 'No' and they walk away - but that hasn't happened for years now, they know the rules)

The material is as thick as the covering on my piano stool. It's faux leather. Seems quite tough. It should be enough unless they become determined! There is a 4mm version, but decided against it. Yes, I could lay another sheet underneath, if I'm feeling paranoid. But I cut their claws when they arrive.
They have to be locked in my house when they come. They do have an enclosure within the garden. But they are not allowed out of it. They would rip the neighbourhood apart and probably bring a few foxes back as kill!
These cats eat all the plants too. My mother hasn't been disciplining them, I don't think!

I was considering a dust cover for my 509 (also in Polished Ebony), but I was afraid that the simple action of placing and removing the cover every time I wanted to play would cause rubbing on the finish. Of course, that is unless the inside of the cover was lined with fur (sorry kitties), or another soft, low friction, material.
It's just that I find the PE finish is SO susceptible to micro-scratches even from anything but the softest cloth.
Granted, it seems like a better alternative than cat claws on the top, but I would consider only using it for that purpose and keeping a nice microfiber cloth for a light weekly dusting.
Of course, I'm picky about glossy finishes...
