My daughter has problem reading the score from the LCD screen on our CVP-207 because of the angle she looks at it when sitting on the bench. So I am thinking about getting a display to put on the piano. The question is what kind. I connected a small TV (something like 25" one) to it. It was bad. Can not read from it at all. And it is too heavy to put on top of piano anyway. So I just wondering if anybody has done that and/or have any suggestions.

The image on a TV will never be very sharp because it's getting a composite video signal from the piano. You might try a small-screen (like 12") black and white TV to see if that helps. In this case, bigger is probably worse. Also, be sure the cable is high quality and that the connectors are clean.

I have connected the CVP to a 21" TV using Video Out, and got it to work quite well.

The main problem was the default background obscured the text. Changing the background helped a lot.

You can change the background by going to Function>Utility>Owner>Main Picture. I use Wavelets6 on a TV.

I use a coaxial cable, like the ones used for cable TV, and connect it to the video input to my 27" TV using an adapter plug (coax to RCA) and the other end to the video out from the 207 using the same type of adapter. It works well. I also don't use any background.

You may have already sorted this out, but for what it's worth, I found the display a little difficult to start with, then I discovered that you can change the contrast which helped immensely.

Can you connect to a flat screen VGA computer monitor? Would you need additional cables or software? Would the picture be sharper?

Hi

Can you connect to a flat screen VGA computer monitor?

A NORMAL flat screen VGA computer monitor will just have a VGA input and NOT a video input.

Lasy year I bought a flat screen TV which had a Video and a VGA input I think it also had a Scart socket on it.

I don't think you use Scart plugs in the US or do you.

Anyway you may have to look for a flat screen TV and not a monitor.

Has anyone tried using a notebook computer with a digital video input?

I was looking at some Roland brochures which often depict their model(s) with a computer montior. Their specs. indicate a VGA Out and not a Video Out so maybe there are some major differences. I have a high tech friend in CA that I will e-mail to see what he might have to offer. Although, it sure sounds like Midi Magic has it in hand. If so, it's a bit disappointing as I was told by a Yamaha associate that the 208 and 210's could easily be connected to a computer screen because of the Video Out jack.

Hi

I was looking around two stores today, Maplins and PC World. There are plenty of cards / converters to convert VGA to Video but alas I saw nothing to convert Video to VGA.

There may be some monitors out there with Video In but I have not seen any.

BTW I bought my Flat screen TV / Monitor to use on my PC but my wife thought it would look better in the bedroom and should be used as a TV. It is made by LG.

This from the Product Support Specialist, Piano Service Department at Yamaha Corp. of America.

"The CVP series has a basic RCA connector video out that you can connect to any television that has a similar input. Yamaha does not not manufacture a flat screen to go along with the unit, however."

There was no additional response to my query as to whether there was any way to hook the video out to a flat screen computer monitor using special cables etc.

Hi sp.k.

I have just typed "video to VGA converter" into Google and on the first site it came back with I found this.

http://www.ramelectronics.net/html/video-vga_adapter.html

There may be more out there. I never knew there were any.

I love this group you learn so much.

Midi

Great job!! I sent them an e-mail describing the situation just to see what they have to say. They have a 30 day return policy.
