Hello !

I have a problem with my cvp503 ..I know this is not a huge problem , but i need a little help ...

I use an iMac 27" with Logic Express 9 , and am using a
Mark of the Unicorn midi control box

I am having a problem with midi control ..

In Laymans language ... please let me know where to turn
LOCAL OFF so that my instrument only plays the tracks that I program instead of every single channel ...

I also have this problem when I upload my midi files, which include sysex gm messages into Logic , the cvp 503 just wants to play everything , this creates a mishmash of everything , which is not quite the right thing to listen to...!..

.. and there you have it ...

1 . How do I TURN LOCAL OFF when i am using my sequencer ?

2 . How do I stop Logic Express playing 'everything' :

~ For Example , when I buy a midifile from Yamaha soft , It usually comes down as a GM file , so I need to edit it in the CVP .... How do I set up my own "Patch" which I can use all the time , then send it to Logic ... as a midifile ... to play back sounding as I created it ?

i have a basic knowledge of midi control ( Dx7 , V50, Sy77 , Sy99 ) , what am I doing wrong ?

Many thanks for your time .....

Hi!

Maybe the reason you're not getting any replies, is because the question is unclear? At least I can't quite get my head around it, but on the other hand I don't use that kind of equipment; so I just dismissed it, thinking maybe someone else will understand.

Is the problem that you want only some channels to be played? If so, where? For instance, first you say "the cvp 503 just wants to play everything", and then you say "How do I stop Logic Express playing 'everything'". Which do you want to stop exactly?

It is unclear how your setup is and what you want to achieve. I assume Logic Express is some MIDI software on your Mac? Which then is the controller? The Mac or the CVP? Do you want to start playing a file on your Mac and have it play some of the tracks only on the CVP, or do you want to start playing a file on the CVP and have some of the tracks only playing on the Mac?

"TURN LOCAL OFF when i am using my sequencer" - and the sequencer is what? The CVP or the Mac or something third?

"It usually comes down as a GM file , so I need to edit it in the CVP" - why? GM stands for General MIDI and is supported by all. What exactly do you have to edit?

"How do I set up my own "Patch" which I can use all the time , then send it to Logic ... as a midifile" - what is a patch, and where do you create it? It doesn't sound like a MIDI thing. (Are you thinking of voices? They are often called patches, and if I recall correctly the DX7 you mentioned called them patches. But that is quite different from your initial talk of turning off channels)

"to play back sounding as I created it ?" - what exactly have you created and where? Play back where?

Sorry for not getting it. And what's the difference between the two questions?

Brgds

Danny

Hi sorry about the late reply , I have health issues … and thanx for your response ...

Ok , apologies for the confused nature of the post … at that time i was quite vexed and annoyed with myself , and Logic express 9 …

I will try to explain what I want to do …. The musical goal I want to achieve is to make backing trax for singers ….

1. I need to make up a 'Patch" on the 503 … this will have all the basic instrumentation of my song arrangements … and is one I can easily access

when I need to change them ….

( a bit like the SY77/99 … in those you build up a patch , and then using an external sequencer you make up your arrangement … )

2 …. I have Logic express 9 …. Now while i don't profess to knowing everything about this prog , it is a sequencer …. , with more editing capabilities

then I ever expect to use …

I want to , for example …. do summat like this …

Record a Piano track , strings track, Bass track , and drum track …. , and maybe a few pad sounds ….

Press Playback , and get the end result …. BUT all I get is the 503 playing everything all at once .. which leads me to think That it is a Midi control

problem … .. but where , I don't know for sure ….

I hope this helps to clarify things for you …

Hi Mike

"BUT all I get is the 503 playing everything all at once"

Can you explain?

Have you told the 503 to receive midi on ALL channels?

It really is best to Skpye me if you can.
