When using a usb flash drive with a computer I know you're suppose to click "eject" or "safely remove" before you take it out of the computer. Is there something similar that should be done with the usb drive on the cvp-509? I couldn't find anything about this in the manual or on the display screen when a usb is inserted so I'm assuming it's not needed, but I just wanted to double check. Thanks!

Hi ,I have a cvp -505 .I think that the CVP 500 series operating system handles the removal by itself ,therefore does not provide the dialog to safely remove the usb stick. I did not find anything on that subject either and never experience loss of data or crashes by remooving the usb stick! You can surely check by going to Yahama online services in the customer support section and get the answer you are seeking and report this in this thread.

Hi Louis, I contacted Yamaha customer support as you suggested and here is their response: "Definitely not. Just make sure it is not currently being written to or accessed when you remove it."

Hi!
The "Safely Remove" function is only for peripherals with moving parts, such as hard disks. What it does is to slowly spin down the disk first. If you abruptly disconnect it, it may damage the disk as it stops spinning too suddenly. But that is very rare, all modern disks allow it to spin down slowly by itself, not putting a brake on it when power is lost.
Memory sticks have no moving parts, just RAM memory. So you don't need to do anything when removing them; on a Yamaha or a PC.

USB flash drives may have no moving parts, but during writing, the contents in the unit circuit and memory cells are being move around. We definitely do not want data corruption during "write" activities.

Hi!
I wouldn't pull out a USB stick while it's still writing, thats why they have flashing lights so you can see. If it's not flashing, it is absolutely safe to remove.
