Recently I recieved an order of a David Lanz PianoSoft title so I can share my experience, and also raise some questions.
The diskette does play, if by 'play' one means can you hear the recorded music.
However, if by 'works' one means that you can use this disk to its full capacity, or at least in the standard ways one would expect - then at least in the case of this title, the PianoSoft diskettes do NOT work on the Clavinova. Allow me to elaborate.
On my title, all of the music info appears on track 1 (channel 1 ot the 16 possible channels) vs at least having the melody on track 1 and the right hand play on track 2. The key is this: As a result, the sheet music that appears on the center clavinova screen is now USELESS. Both the left and right hand parts seem to be superimposed appearing only on the base clef (bottom) where as the treble clef (top) is blank.

Been having message length error problems, to continue..
Due to the concerns posted above, this makes it impossible to 1. use the music display feature, 2. use the guide function (as music is nonreadable), and 3. have the piano play only one part while the user plays the other.
As a result, I cannot use the software title in any of the ways I intended (that is, for my wife).
Yes, I can 'play' the title meaning to 'hear' the songs, but if that was my only goal, I would just instead pop in an audio CD into my stereo. Evven the Yamaha Music Website is misleading in that in their compatability chart they give PianoSoft titles the highest recommended ranking for the 200 series of CVP>

Have you tried selecting for the score display, the channel containing the instrument carrying the melody?

Hi
Sorry to hear of your disapointment. I am affiad to say that there is more to come.
The Pianosoft range of disks are made primaraly for the Disklavier pianos. These are ment to be listened to instead of being played along with.
There ARE some titles in the PianoSoft range that do have the Left and Right hands split into the two tracks. These seem to be mainly for educational pieces.
I don't know of any way to split the display on the CVP but it could be done using a PC and a sequencer program.
But first you will need to unprotect the disk, then copy the files to the PC and then convert them from Eseq to Midi files.

Hi Smarks,
in defense of the PianoSoft 'Original Artist' title:
This product is designed to be used as an entertainment piece, just as if you purchased a David Lanz CD for your listening pleasure. As this software was designed for the Disklavier product, the software allows you, the listener, to have a virtual private concert with David Lanz, for the music you hear is actually played by Lanz. Unfortunately, in this case, the PianoSoft disk is not designed as an educational tool.
I hope this information gives you a little piece of mind.
Best,
Tony

As always, thanks to all for your feedback. Regarding 'in defense of Yamaha', I 'now' realize the PianoSoft titles are intended for Disklavier and thus just to 'hear' the performance. But at the same time, Yamaha (and for that matter, some salespersons I spoke with) should make that more clear.
At least the Yamahamusicsoft website should point out these limitations more clearly. Infortunately, the ClaviSoft and CueTime titles seem much more limited (and often at a beginner level) than the vast selection of PianoSoft titles.
One of these days I'll have to look at the Disklaviers. I'm not aware of exactly what they can and cannot do.
