:confused:Hello Folks,
Can some one help please, I have downloaded a couple of music files off the net to play along with on my 209 I already have sheet music to these files but the sheet music is written in the key of F and the files are in the key of E I have tried each and every way to convert the files is there a way to do this? I would appreciate some advice if this is possible,
Best regards,
arteear

All you need to do is to transpose the song up one half step before it begins to play. Load the file into your CVP-209, press the "up" (+) transpose button two times (once to display, once to change key).

This should change your MIDI song from playing in the key of E to playing in the key of F, which will then match your printed music.

Please let me know if this works OK. Very simple to do.

You should be able to instantly put ANY song in ANY key by using the transpose down or up buttons. Way cool.

Many thanks R D,
But I tried that before I mailed the club, am I missing something here, I have gone over it all again and I'm afraid that I slightly mislead you regarding the key, one file that I am trying to get to grips with is the song Something Stupid (very apt eh!), when I load as a song file and then look at the score that is presented on the piano screen it is showing two flats one on B and one on E this would be in the key of Bb major ? I think, Now the printed music score that I want to play along with the file is in the key of F and no matter how mant times up or down I set the transpose button it sounds bloody awful a bit like Les Dawson so to speak, as I say am I missing something that is obvious, thank you for your patience.
Best wishes

No matter what key the song file is playing in (this one IS in Bb if it displays with 2 flats—or 2 flats could also be in G minor, the relative minor key of Bb major); with the transposer feature just keep clicking either the UP button or the DOWN button until you arrive at the key that works. The transposer can put the playback of your song in all 12 keys, and one of them HAS to be the correct one.

In order to get the song playback in the key of F (from Bb) you would need to transpose either down 5 half-steps or up 7 half-steps. The DOWN version will sound one octave lower than the UP version. Choose the one that sounds best to your ears.

Some electronic instruments limit the DOWN transposition to about 5 half-steps, and the UP transposition to about 7 half-steps, making it still possible to change into any key, but Yamaha has given us a full 12 half-steps in both directions, which is great.

Also, I’ve seen some instruments that allow more than 12 half-steps in either direction (I think the Kurzweil Mark 12 goes 24 half-steps in both directions) and this is cumbersome, because with the Yamaha if you need a fast one octave lower or higher change you just hold the correct transpose button down until it stops scrolling, and there you are exactly one octave lower or higher.

arteear—one of the 12 keys HAS to be the right one. Just keep clicking those transpose buttons until it works.

Hi arteear

If you use just the transpose buttons all you'll do is transpose what ever the piano is set to and this could be the whole piano up or down. This is know as Master.

Now what you want, is to either transpose just the MIDI file or the Keyboard but NOT both.

From the Main screen push the "Direct Access" button followed by one of the transpose buttons.

You sholud now see the Mixing Console screen. Down in the bottom left hand side you will see 3 boxes. Master, Song and Keyboard.

Now select either the Song (midi file) or the Keyboard using the

 key then use the  key to transpose the Song or keyboard, which ever you have chosen to transpose.

Let's say you transposed the Song. Now the midi file will play back in the key of F and the piano will play in Bb.

You could of course do it the other way round and transpose the keyboard. So the keyboard plays in F and the midi file stays in the key of Bb

That smiley should be the DOWN button.

Thank you Midi Magic,
I have done that and, eureka it works! I am extremely grateful to you, though it in itself has posed another problem, I saved the settings to user , but found that the settings had returned to the original format when I clicked on again after turning the piano off for a while, any clues?

Best wishes

Hello R D,
I do thank you so very much for taking the trouble with my problem but as you can see we were both probably under the same illusion (I think) unless of course I did not make myself very clear to you, anyway lots of thanks

Again Best wishes,
Arteear

Hi

There seems to be a lot of things that the piano forgets when you first turn it on. Of course it does a reset each time. Have you tried saving the settings into a registration?

Now this realy is a pain, you must save your registrations before you turn the piano off as it looses these as well.

Still, it only takes a few seconds to out back.

I am glad to of helped.
