Hi all.

I need to convert a pianosoft disk so that I can access the files on my computer. I believe that the dkvutils.zip had a utility for this. However I can not seem to find the file anymore. would someone be so kind as to repost it in the files section.

Thank you in advance.

Well... that was not quite the whole ticket.

I was able to copy the disk and be a ble to see the files, but I was unable to convert them. :( In Eexplore it shows the files but there are question marks in front of each and no file information. When I try to convert a file it comes up with the error message that the eseq file is corrupt. The disk I am trying to copy is a new one from Yamaha with XG midi files on it.

Any suggestions?
Thanks again for your help.

Hi

I am not sure what you are trying to do. You say you want to convert them but then you say they are XG midi files. So what do you want to convert them to?

The explorer program is only for .fil files and NOT midi.

Sorry if I was not clear enough.

It is a Pianosoft download from Yamaha Music soft. I purchased and downloaded a set of about 8 songs. In order to do the download you need to install the Yamaha music soft downloader. When you finish making the purchase the download goes straight to the downloader program which only saves the files on a disk. This disk is not readable by windows (or DOS). The disk works fine in a 209 but I would like to use them on the computer as well. The downloaded songs are in the XG format, but because they are on the unreadable disk I can not access them. I tried the copy function ( DKVCOPY ) but the copied disk is not readable in the 209. The copied files are also not usable on the computer. I did do a single song purchase from Yamaha Music Soft and that just comes as a Zip file with a standard midi inside.

Just curious if there is a way to gain access to the pianosoft files.

Thank you.

Hi

First of all, I have not used the download software that you speak of.
Yamaha's normal trick is to destroy the 1st (Boot) sector of the disk. The PC needs this sector to determine the size and type of floppy. The 209 does not need this this info.

There are 2 ways to correct this.

1 use the Dkvcopy program. This will ONLY work in DOS and you MUST use a 720K, one hole floppy.

2 you can use a HEX edit program to restore the boot sector.

There are about 32 bytes of info at the begining of the floppy which Yamaha wipes clean. If you have a Hex program all you need to do is to insert a "Good" floppy and write down the first 32 bytes, then put in the Yamaha disk and write these bytes to the Yam disk. Make sure that you use the same type of floppy ie 720k or 1.44k

   THIS IS NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED THOUGH

All the best.

Hi Onno

How did you get on with that Pianosoft disk?

Am I correct in thinking that Yamaha want you to use a 1.4M floppy when you download. If that is the case then Dkvcopy will not work because it needs a 720K floppy.

Don't give up !!!!!!

Hopefuly there will be a new program out soon that will not only play those files straight from the disk you created when you downloaded the songs but fix the disk so you can save them to HDD.

Hello Midi.

When I was trying to get the files of the disk, on to the computer, we did not have our 209 yet. Now that I have one I can hear what the songs are like. I might try connecting the CVP to the computer and recording the songs that way. I would like to print out sheet music for the piano part on some of the songs.

Thanks for all your help.

Hi

What OS system do you use? The program needs NT, 2000, or XP.
