I haven't had much of a chance yet to read the details, but has anyone seen Apple's new announcement of "GarageBand"?

While I do plan on tinkering with it over the next week when I get the chance, can a MIDI Guru ascertain what one might be able to do with this when combined with a Clavinova (based just on the web announcement)? I realize that the Apple announcement is vendor neutral.

I have one of the newer Clav's with the USB-to-MIDI port already built in. It mentions using the keyboard to capture music. I'm wondering whether the software can go "the other way" as well and let the Clavinova synthesize the sound rather than just the computer.

Overall, I'm interested in downloading this soon and "kicking the tires" over the next several days. I also plan on watching the Yamaha CVP tutorial videos on DVD to get a better handle on recording, playing with voices and channels, etc.

Hi

It's hard to tell for sure but it looks like you just use it to play back samples or samples within the program.

I have a simular program for the PC that came with my Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS card called FL Sudio 4.

Came across the following article on GarageBand and MIDI today:

http://www.macjams.com/article.php?story=20040128064923856

Notably it said:
"GarageBand is a comparatively simple music program. It can only accept MIDI input. That is, you can connect a MIDI device to GarageBand and play GarageBand's instruments with it, but you can't have GarageBand transmit data back to the MIDI device so it plays music on the device."

That's a bit sad for me as a Clavinova user. GarageBand focuses more on the manipulation and synthesis of music and less on controlling external MIDI devices.
