I don't have an answer for you yet, but I have someone coming out next week to solve the same problem on my CVP-209, so I'll try to take good notes ;)

ClavinovaGuy,

Have you solved the problem with your CVP-209?
What did they do?
What are the steps to reach the keyboard assembley and repair it?

Please info.

Thanks for your response and help.

They won't be out to fix it until this Tuesday or Wednesday, but I plan to be home to watch the repairman in action.

It is quite a common problem.
I can open the top cover. What to do next?
Please share us your info

The repairman came out today and determined that he has to order 2 new keys for me. When you look at the keyboard from the side (looking down the ends of the keys), you can see that these two keys are slightly in from the rest. He opened up the piano and could see that when he pushed them back into place, they didn't stick anymore. But they won't stay in place - these keys either have something broken on them, or are worn.

Which of your keys stick? He said that if the keys that stick are together, then something may have been spilled and is making them stick.

Mine is intermitent problem. There are 3 separate keys. Most of the the time the keys can rest into their position. But after about 15 mins playing the sticking problem occurred.
I think dust can effect the keyboard mechanisms.
We need to clean and reach the hinge. Put a bit silicon base oil (probably) on the hinge.

If you could help inform us the ways to reach the keyboard. What parts should be opened first to reach the keys?

Thanks for your info

He didn't get as far as to pop the front panel (under the keys) off, but here's what we did to get the top and dust cover off (I assume it will be similar for your model):

1). Roll the dust cover about halfway up
2). If you look in the corners between the piano top and the dust cover, you should see a screw in each corner (a flashlight may be necessary)
3). Remove these screws carefully - a magnetized screwdriver is a MUST, or they can drop into the piano.
4). You should now be able to slide the top backward a couple of inches, and then lift it up and off.
5). You will see a spring connected to the cover, in the middle of the piano - disconnect the spring from the cover (you may need a pliers to bend the spring end slightly)
6). There is a screw on each side of the dust cover track, holding a little plastic gizmo that keeps the top in its track. Remove the screw and plastic thingy (this is a very technical term - LOL!) on each side.
7). You should now be able to roll the cover up and lift it out of the piano. Now you should be able to see the forwardmost parts of the keys.

When you put the dust cover back on, there is a gear on each side - you may need to rotate one of the gears slightly to make sure it is aligned properly.

Thanks for your useful info. Did the repairman come back to install the new keys?
How do he reach the keyboard assembly and replace the two keys?
I am not brief enough to reach the keyboard assembly by trial. Do we need to open the control panel or open the bottom case?

I can temporary solve my problem by spraying thin silicon base contact cleaner (not WD40) from a distance.
I think most of the case sticking key is because of dirty hinge or other parts of the key.

We look forward for your info....

He hasn't been back out yet - he had to order parts. I'll let you know as soon as it's fixed.

Well, I have good news and bad news. The good news is, the guy came out and replaced my sticking keys today. The bad news is, I couldn't be here to observe him doing the repair, so I don't know any more than I did before. I would recommend getting the repair manual if you can (I'm thinking about purchasing one myself). It sound like your symptoms are a little different than mine, and hopefully you don't have any broken parts.

Good luck to you with your new keys :)

Thanks! He did leave the old keys, but you can't tell much by looking at them. Apparently some little nub broke off of the very front end of the keys that holds them in place. Everything is working fine now - I just need to be re-trained after several weeks of not playing much ;)
